People are actually excited for this? It looks alright, but...

No, I'm not here to start a fight. It looks alright, not bad, but there are people that seem REALLY excited about this, and I'm just wondering why? "It looks like it's right out of the comic books". Well, so did the other movies. "It'll focus more on his detective side" That's what they say anyway. We'll see if they do it right, let alone if the rest of the movie is any good. I'll admit, the fight scenes look pretty decent, it just goes to show that the Nolan films could've had some good fight scenes too if they actually tried since both Batman suits look kinda restricting on the actors.

That said, "Batinson" looks kinda creepy in the outfit, he looks like an emo as Bruce Wayne (haven't used the word "emo" since the early 2000s), and the whole thing just feels forced. The DCEU is still going on, Batfleck is coming back for the Flash movie, yet we're getting another unrelated Batman movie? I would've loved to have seen the original movie with Batfleck fighting Deathstroke instead. I was really excited at finally seeing Deathstroke in a big-budget movie that wasn't just a cameo. I remember fan-casting Joe Manganiello long ago and I couldn't believe they actually got him! His iconic suit looked amazing in Justice League.

Yes, I know Joker came out while the DCEU was trying to figure itself out, and it even made $1 billion despite nobody asking for a Joker movie. Maybe this movie will be good, I don't mind being proven wrong and being pleasantly surprised. The thing is, Joker actually looked good, this looks meh to me.

Yeah I watched the Trailer and when Pattinson smacks the glass talking to Riddler I couldn't help but laugh. Sparkly vampire kid from Twilight just isn't intimidating

reply

pattinson is actually a great actor. he adds something special to every role but you are absolutely right, he's weak and can not play an action hero. he's so wrong for this. every one of his batman scenes in the trailer looked awful.

reply

He's been in some good films I won't deny that but yeah he's not right for Batman

reply

True that

reply

Let's not forget, people said the same thing about Keaton and he knocked it out of the park in 1989.

reply

And Affleck, Bale, Kilmer

And people thought Clooney would be good

Still I couldn't help but laugh seeing Pattinson punch the glass. I still don't know what he said but his face was pure comedy

reply

Which is why we can't really judge at this point.

But damn dude, I hope that glass scene is NOT used in the final cut of the film. I've said this elsewhere, but I'm actually a Pattinson fan, and that scene was utterly disappointing. It didn't help that they lingered on his face after the line delivery before they cut.

And I still don't know what he's saying!

reply

"What have you done!"

reply

omfg thank you. it's four words. I've watched it like a dozen times at this point. I just could not figure it out.

reply

He says what have you done?

reply

That's b/c it sounds like "Wharrahavyoodahhn!"

reply

his face is basically incel impotent rage. that's why we can't take it seriously. he's too weak to play an action hero. that doesn't mean he's not a good actor but it's like timothee chalamet playing batman.

LOL perfect comment

Look at the creative team behind it. You have the director in Matt Reeves who has done some really solid films. Those being Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, War For the Planet of the Apes, as well as Let me in. You have cinematographer Greg Fraiser who has shot some incredible looking films. Zero Dark Thirty, Foxcatcher, Killing Them Softly, The Mandalorian, the new upcoming Dune and many more. Pattinson has showcased great acting chops here recently with the Lighthouse, and Good Time. We are getting a villain we have not seen in a while with the Riddler. Paul Dano is a great choice as him. He was great in Prisoners and There Will Be Blood. Kravitz looks stunning as Catwoman. The gothic tone has returned and the music sounds good as well. I get your reasons and I am not saying you have to be excited I am just telling why people like myself are super excited. When it came to BVS Dawn Of Justice I had zero excitement for that film because none of the creative team behind it sounded exciting at all.

I'm not, but the mania behind it doesn't surprise me. It happens with every new Batman movie. The trailer was really good. TOO good, in my opinion. When they put this much work into a polished bad ass trailer, it usually means a rather lackluster film. Pattinson is looking cool, but nothing much in that trailer is showcasing his acting. I get the feeling he's gonna be the weak point. I have other criticisms, but they mostly pertain to this Year One/Two style Batman, and that's not an era of the Crusader's career that's ever interested me. Looks like we're getting a really great Catwoman in this. Wasn't expecting that.

reply

lol It's a bit mindlessly contrarian to have doubts because you thought a movie trailer was TOO good.

Did that stop you from enjoying Batman Begins?

reply

It took me ten years to love it.

reply

Fair enough. Point taken. lmao (I honestly asked because I never cared for those stories either outside of Batman Begins.)

reply

I'm a 45 year old dinosaur. So these "new" movies made for young kids, they're a hard sell.

reply

Well yes, because… people be different from you. *gasps*

But emo… that’s new. Really more gothic if we must go there, but many can’t differentiate between the two anyway. Putting his appearance aside though, it’s evident there are still some Pattinson naysayers out there (always will be no matter what) and, man, do I look forward to seeing him prove said naysayers wrong. The guy has been killing it on screen for a number of years now, and though he actually wouldn’t have been my first choice for the role, his casting as Batman made total sense to me. Great actor and I have no doubt he’s going to nail the role.

Whole thing feels forced? So… why so serious? XD Nah fam, this looks like it’s completely going to capture the essence of the character. As for the DCEU still going on… well excuse me, but, what exactly is the DCEU? Lol, because honestly DC is ALL OVER THE PLACE with their films and shows these days. It’s doubtful general audiences even truly know what a DCEU is. I mean, hell, some thought the last Suicide Squad was a remake! Now, while I do think they’re pushing it with all these different live-action iterations of the same characters, how is making a high-profile and darker standalone Batman film (the first true Batman film in nearly a decade) that isn’t lead by Batfleck gonna make things any more “complicated” for the interconnected DCEU? Truth is, it ain’t. On that note, a film like this is absolutely what some people have been asking for — and many more are now asking for it after those trailers.

Personally, this looks far better - more true to its character - than Joker and anything Batman film wise since Nolan’s films (sorry, he wasn’t bad but Batfleck didn’t leave a big impression on me and I doubt most audiences are gonna miss him after seeing this new film. I’m glad the highly talented Matt Reeves took over this film!). But as mentioned above, if there’s a legitimate reason to be excited for this film other than the cool trailers, then that reason is all the talent that’s involved here.

Those like you weren’t asking for it and aren't feeling hyped for it? That’s fine, I get it to some extent. But, it’s clear a large number of people understandably feel the excitement. So in closing, this looks pretty f’n good (easily the most exciting thing DC has coming up, for my money) and I couldn’t care less about what it does or doesn’t do to the universe it isn’t set in.

reply

Preach brother! I'm so amazed people are still down on this film. This will be the best Batman film since the Nolan era mark my words. I knew bvs was going to be trash before a trailer hit because I am honestly not a fan of Snyder's work. That and it reeked of producer meddling, plus I've just always found the concept of Batman vs Superman a lame uninteresting narrative.

reply

100%! Though I have nothing against Snyder myself, his work has never done it for me. So yeah, I’m ready to see a new Batman (THIS Batman) on screen.

reply

Well I would be a excited for a new Batman film regardless because I am a die hard Batman fan. Batman is like my Star Wars in terms of fandom and we haven't gotten a standalone Batman film in nearly a decade. The only Batman films or films featuring Batman that I wasn't looking forward to was BvS, Justice League and yeah even the Snyder Cut because I didn't like the direction they were going for in those films and the trailers just didn't do it for me. However, this film on the other hand looks magnificent and it shows that the director Matt Reeves is fully embracing the overall basis of the universe of Batman. Meaning the character himself, the atmosphere, the tone, the supporting characters, etc. Don't get me wrong, if I myself didn't think the trailers were that good or if I thought the direction they seem to be going for didn't seem on point, then I wouldn't be that invested in it, however they seem to absolutely get it right with this one. We have a fantastic director on the hands of this project and this looks like he's bringing all of the great elements of Batman into this film.

I also love the emo look they seem to bringing with this Batman. It's not a matter of creepiness. It's something more mysterious that we rarely see from our main comic book heroes in films nowadays and the look fits in with the character of Batman very well. This also isn't a matter of feeling "forced." I get the whole Batfleck returning in the Flash as well as Keaton but that is it's own separate thing. Also that movie isn't their own film. It's a Flash movie with both of those Batman's being just supporting characters and this is probably Afflecks final time playing Batman. Same goes for Keaton, who knows. Therefore they might not have any plans to utilize them further more in the DCEU. This Batman film has nothing to do with that universe. It's trying to be it's own thing building up to a supposedly new Batman franchise.

Curious: what did you think of Gotham? Pennyworth?

reply

I honestly didn't care for Gotham. I didn't like the first 2 episodes of so yeah I didn't bother watching the full series.

I actually haven't gotten to Pennyworth yet but I may give it a try.
