Jake Gyllenhaal is the best actor of this generation!

Having grown up watching iconic greats like Marlon Brando, Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, it becomes difficult to rate many actors in that type of league. However aside from Denzel Washington, the only actor who can produce the sort of epic performances in such diversity of roles is 'Jake Gyllenhaal'. I am such a huge fan of Gyllenhaal's career, you only have to watch four movies in succession to know this guy is one of the best actors of all time. Movies like 'Prisoners', 'Enemy', 'Nightcrawler' and now 'Southpaw' is testament that there has not been a more refined actor than Jake in the last fifty years.

That's not even getting started on Leo and Matt.

I think Southpaw is pretty good too but, yeah.... Jake's a great actor but he's not the best of this generation.

Well MM is 11 years older than Jake. They tend to go for different roles. Jake has always been consistent whereas MM has rediscovered his spark and been on Fire in recent years.

IMO Jake is a much more refined and talented actor. Brokeback Mountain, Donnie Darko, Jarhead, Prisoners, Nightcrawler.

But yes for sure Bale is more talented than Jake. Just as Leo and Joaquin are more talented than Bale. Jake is building his way to being in their class.

OP: Gyllenhaal can barely act. What movies have you been watching?
Dicaprio, Hardy, Bale... are way better.

Get real mate.

He is a decent actor here and there but no where near being a contender for the best actor of his generation. This is the problem with everything in todays world. *beep* being labelled as gold and hyping things up to be what they are not.

He is definitely right up there with the best.. for me the best of his generation are (in no particular order):

Gyllenhaal - Nightcrawler, Enemy, Prisoners, Southpaw, End of Watch, Brokeback Mountain, Donnie Darko, Jarhead, Zodiac, Brothers

Bale - American Psycho, Machinist, The Fighter, Harsh Times, The Prestige, Rescue Dawn, 3:10 to Yuma, Out of the Furnace, American Hustle

Gosling - Half Nelson, Blue Valentine, Lars and the real Girl, The Believer, Drive, Ides of March, All Good Things, United States of Leland, Stay

DiCarprio - The Aviator, The Departed, Blood Diamond, Wolf of Wall Street, Django Unchained, Revolutionary Road, Gilbert Grape, Shutter Island, Catch Me If You Can, The Great Gatsby

Fassbender - Shame, 12 Years a Slave, Hunger, Frank, Inglourious Basterds, A Dangerous Method, Prometheus, Fish Tank, The Counselor

I would add Tom Hardy to the list.

Love Jake,the ultimate talent in my opinion.Enjoyed all of his films.
