Any other movies with a similar atmosphere?

I actually really, really enjoyed this movie. I felt the ending was abit cheap, and also the death of Gale was abit cheap, too, but I definitely loved about 3/4 of the film. The filming, the atmosphere was just fantastic and I'd love to see another one like it. Any good recommendations?

I should also say that I am mostly a fan of newer horror, not too big on anything before 2000ish (not to say I don't enjoy it, it's just not what I am after here).

I think the domestic scene was so common and familiar to most people and thats why they have some likeness towards this weird film

If you mean films in the 'new wave of brutal cinema' that began with Irreversible...

Well theres Serbian Film, Red White and Blue, Antichrist, Irrversible, Martyrs, Snowtown, Oldboy, and most recently Drive(pretty graphic for an American mainstream film) I wont include goofy cheese like human centipede, hostel or saw

Now if you mean films with a similar vibe, definitely Snowtown(Australia, 2011)
and Animal Kingdom(australia, 2010)

some of the shot selections and dissonant orchestral tones really reminded me certain parts of "we need to talk about kevin" by lynne ramsay

Psychological, with a surreal horror. Its a spanish genre as well.

"Sauna" hard to understand but had a very dark, eerie atmosphere to it, definitely a different type of horror than you are used to. "dead birds" is another good one.

Timecrimes (currently being remade, Americanised and maybe ruined) French movie if I remember correctly, absurdity that makes sense and is nothing short of amazing. Also have to recommend Triangle (which was mentioned earlier) which is very similar in some aspects. Timecrimes is very engaging and original.
