Any other movies with a similar atmosphere?

I actually really, really enjoyed this movie. I felt the ending was abit cheap, and also the death of Gale was abit cheap, too, but I definitely loved about 3/4 of the film. The filming, the atmosphere was just fantastic and I'd love to see another one like it. Any good recommendations?

I should also say that I am mostly a fan of newer horror, not too big on anything before 2000ish (not to say I don't enjoy it, it's just not what I am after here).

Thanks alot in advance, cheers!

The film's tone reminded me of 2008's Linkerover aka Left Bank, although I liked that one a bit better than the way Kill List ended up.

The last half of the film reminded me of a great old flick called
(The original)The Wicker man(1973) not the awful remake with Nicholas Cage.

I agree. There are some similarities I can't quite pinpoint, but that struck as soon as we were shown the masked parade.

Also a British movie called Triangle.

Eyes Wide Shut is very similar to this film in atmosphere and somewhat in story. It's more of a psychological thriller than horror, but very enjoyable and underrated in my opinion.

A few pre-2000 suggestions, but here goes...

The classic Get Carter (1971) invites you to sympathize with a main character who has an aptitude for violence. If you can't get enough of garrulous English criminals (one of whom is also named Gal), there's Sexy Beast (2000).

If you can't get enough of garrulous English characters in general, you might enjoy Mike Leigh. Kill List is like Mike Leigh with guns, and his Naked (1993) is in its own way just as bleak.

If like me you are a fan of the "What the hell just happened?" horror movie genre there are a number of options. Triangle (2009) inspired volumes of IMDB board speculation. A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) is a feverish remix of every Asian horror movie of the past decade whose ending I think makes sense, but being unsure is part of the fun. While for the most part not a horror movie, Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011) also gets a lot of mileage out of the information it withholds. Martyrs (2008) is definitely a horror movie, and a nasty piece of work at that, but like Kill List it starts as one kind of movie and turns into another. David Lynch's doppelgänger films--Lost Highway (1997), Mullholland Drive (2001), and Inland Empire (2006)--are all satisfyingly confusing, though they replace Kill List's gritty naturalism with intense stylization.

There's a great Belgian film called Calvaire / The Ordeal (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0407621/) which although differs greatly in plot had quite a similar tone I felt.

I 2nd 'Calvaire' really odd but great film.
and just to add Kill list isn't like a Serbian film bar that one scene, and even that wasn't the same. I bet none of you even thought of SB until the end.

In terms of raw atmosphere, the first film that popped into my head was 'Harsh Times'

It's pretty horrible. I didn't really like it that much.

I also suggest checking out 'Martyrs' for a similarly intense, ultra-violent, twisted horror.
