Any other movies with a similar atmosphere?

I actually really, really enjoyed this movie. I felt the ending was abit cheap, and also the death of Gale was abit cheap, too, but I definitely loved about 3/4 of the film. The filming, the atmosphere was just fantastic and I'd love to see another one like it. Any good recommendations?

I should also say that I am mostly a fan of newer horror, not too big on anything before 2000ish (not to say I don't enjoy it, it's just not what I am after here).

some awesome recommendations. The Great Ecstasy of Robert Carmichael, Angel Heart and Dead Mans shoes are great, check out, River's Edge, pretty much any of Larry Clark or Todd Solondz early stuff. One flick that hasn't yet been mentioned is The War Zone (Ray Winstone)

We call them 'bleak' but really each has a protagonist that we know or suspect is capable of committing terrible acts, yet in the absence of a more likable character we find ourselves rooting for them which in turn makes us question our own morality and perhaps we don't like the answer.
