Does anyone that doesn't do drugs like this movie?

This is a legitimate question and not an attempt to trash John Dies at the End. Admittedly, I didn't like it. I also don't like the sensation of being high. I feel like it causes my brain not to work properly and, therefore, is a waste of my time.

That said, this movie, especially in the middle but really, throughout almost the whole thing, felt similar to being on drugs. The way things just sort of happen out of nowhere, the way a lot of elements didn't really make any kind of logical sense, and the way, when people were talking, it felt really difficult to follow what they were saying. It was also funny, weird, and allows the viewer to see the world in a completely different way.

A lot like being high.

So that's why I wonder if most of this flick's supporters are fans of recreational drug use.

Funny Went Out On A Limb Bought This Movie Because I Read It Was Supposed To Be Crazy. Me And A Friend took Some MDMA And Watched It And We Were Slack Jawed Over It. Watched It 2 Times In A Row. I've Watched It Sober And On LSD As Well I Love This Movie NO Matter What State I'm In. Don Coscarelli Is Amazing Bought Bubba Ho-Tep Right After Seeing This And Was Absolutely Blown Away By It. Then I Bought The III and IV Phantasm Movies because I Already Owned The First And Second And Was Once Again Astonished To Find Out That They Just Kept Getting Weirder And Better. Can't Wait To See What He Does Next. Maybe My Favorite director.

I liked it, and I'm clean as a whistle. Soy Sauce isn't really a 'drug', it's a sentient, otherworldly being.

Legitimate my ass.
Asking a question like this suggests that you think this movie can't be enjoyed
without some kind of substance. Well let me help you out of a dream. If you want to enjoy a film you should always watch it on it's own merit. As it is intended. In this case the only thing that is required is a sense of humour. Is this movie random, yes, is it logical? No. Is it entertaining, yes I thought so but that is subjective.

Is that so? Where did you acquire this wisdom?

Considering drugs kill off brain cells I can see why the OP is confused.

I don't do drugs and I very much enjoy this film.

I watched this movie precisely BECAUSE I didn't have to be high to virtually get the same effect.

That's what movies are for; they let you experience something that you might not ordinarily experience.

and honestly, I wouldn't recommend taking any recreational substance before watching this movie... you're going to need all your wits about you as it is if you ever hope to understand any of it.

So to answer your question, I don't do drugs and I really enjoyed this movie.

i don't do drugs, never cared for it, tried a few things back in the seventies and gave up. i happen to like this movie, it is more than a little surreal, but i enjoy this movie. It is, to my perception, less of a movie about a trip (though it is trippy) than it is about a drug opening perceptions to aspects of the universe that the rational mind has a bit of trouble accepting. This puts it partially in Lovecraft territory, and partially a movie blending armchair philosophy with armchair quantum mechanics. The novel had at least one subtext that didn't make it into the movie, implying parallel worlds/universes.

it is not a movie that can be easily rationalized or explained all the way through, if at all, but that is at least some of its charm. it is definitely not a movie for everyone, and there is nothing negative in not liking the movie, i have no elitist response to anyone who doesn't care for it. something this trippy is extremely subjective. like many movies with a subjective reality it is hard to relate to if you don't connect with it.

Requiem For A Dream is the most realistic representation of drug use I have ever seen. Spin is another good one. I have a friend who was so touched by Spin that he quit drugging and drinking immediately after the movie.

I don't do drugs and I started reading the book just because I kept seeing it at the bookstore. Then I heard they were making a movie and it got me excited because the story is so twisted. I thought the movie was good, wish it would have been better but I enjoyed the *beep* out of it.

To me this didn't feel like being on drugs. But then I have a bevy of psychological disorders that have made this film quite enjoyable and understandable to me lol.
