I Asked For A Refund

I have been an avid movie goer for nearly 30 years and today was the first time in my life that I felt so ripped off I actually asked for my ticket to be refunded. I tried to get past the nauseating shaky camera and blurry actors. The only scenes that were in focus were the never ending cleavage shots of Elizabeth Olsen. I guess the gratuitous shots of her perky assets were intended to distract the audience from what a steaming pile they were watching. I feel bad for Elizabeth because she deserves better than this film.

I'm not certain how the comparison started with this film and the 'Paranormal Activity' films. While these movies certainly weren't great, they were Merchant Ivory quality compared to this. I've read some of the comments here and several posts nailed it. If you think you are going to see a haunted house, ghost, or scary movie, you have been trolled. 'Silent House' received an F from CinemaScore for a reason.

This movie is...

'High Tension' + 'An American Haunting' + scenes from 'The Butterfly Effect'. There aren't any ghosts, demons or scary neighbor folk. There is a psychotic young woman, mild gore and heavy-handed child sexual abuse scenes and imagery. Sex acts with her father while her uncle watched and photographed. A continuous scene where you see a bed filling up with blood, a naked girl sitting in a bathtub full of beer bottles, the water red with her virgin blood, the reflection of a toilet in the bathroom mirror with a constant stream of blood coming out of it that starts gushing. I went in to see a horror movie, not kiddie porn.

I don't really understand the complaints. If they'd advertised it for what it was, there would have been no surprise. People are so used to knowing exactly what to expect when they walk into a movie that they're offended if a movie has any mystery to it at all. Why would you ask for a refund from a theater, anyway? They didn't make the film, or require you to buy a ticket.

I don't think it was a bad movie. Was it what I expected? No, but I still enjoyed it, even though it made me very uncomfortable.

I am odd but I liked this a lot better than the shaky, boring, annoying cast, only scary scene was the last, Paranormal Activity. I wanted to shoot myself within 15 minutes of that film. I even endured Paranormal 2 because it was so raved about - which I ended up liking better but still enjoyed this more. Granted, I get why the end might annoy people but saying it's better than PA is really not saying much, I agree with the OP's Elizabeth Olsen statement though.

OP

Sounds like you watched a CAM copy on the internet. Or your movie theater sucks.

I wouldn't give a refund if someone watched the entire movie. 20-30 Minutes max.

reply

Incorrect, this movie is awful ripoff of Spanish version movie. Spanish one was scary and tense this one sucked.

reply

^^Incorrect, as it is all opinion.

Asking for money back, thats just childish and ridiculous, but I have come to expect that here on IMDB.

I've been an avid movie goer for more than 40 years and to ask for a refund because you don't like the film is ABSURD!!

You are not guaranteed satisfaction for any film you see.

Instead of asking the theater for your money back (sheesh), better to write the producer and ask him/her and let them know your discontent.

The only time I EVER asked for a refund was during a packed movie and the couple on the left AND on the right talked the ENTIRE MOVIE, and to get up and go complain to management would have been an extreme hassle due to the crowding of the theater.

I agree with you Scully. Although I have never actually asked for a refund, I have walked out of many movies before. I don't think the movie was as horrible as you think it was, but it certainly wasn't good. And you made a good point about the massive cleavage. To tell you the truth, that's all I was looking at the whole time. What a sexist pig, eh? But you are right, this movie got an F and it damn sure deserved it.

I agree. it is not the threatre fault that the movie is a complete dud. Asking for yur money back is the same thing as blaming the theatre for the creation of the movie.

The movie did have horrible camera work. most of it is out of focus. Plus what is going on is to confusing. they should have had the past parts slowly revealed thru out rather then putting it all at the end. I did not ask for my money back but i will definetly not be buying the movie when it comes out on DVD
