I Asked For A Refund

I have been an avid movie goer for nearly 30 years and today was the first time in my life that I felt so ripped off I actually asked for my ticket to be refunded. I tried to get past the nauseating shaky camera and blurry actors. The only scenes that were in focus were the never ending cleavage shots of Elizabeth Olsen. I guess the gratuitous shots of her perky assets were intended to distract the audience from what a steaming pile they were watching. I feel bad for Elizabeth because she deserves better than this film.

I'm not certain how the comparison started with this film and the 'Paranormal Activity' films. While these movies certainly weren't great, they were Merchant Ivory quality compared to this. I've read some of the comments here and several posts nailed it. If you think you are going to see a haunted house, ghost, or scary movie, you have been trolled. 'Silent House' received an F from CinemaScore for a reason.

This movie is...

'High Tension' + 'An American Haunting' + scenes from 'The Butterfly Effect'. There aren't any ghosts, demons or scary neighbor folk. There is a psychotic young woman, mild gore and heavy-handed child sexual abuse scenes and imagery. Sex acts with her father while her uncle watched and photographed. A continuous scene where you see a bed filling up with blood, a naked girl sitting in a bathtub full of beer bottles, the water red with her virgin blood, the reflection of a toilet in the bathroom mirror with a constant stream of blood coming out of it that starts gushing. I went in to see a horror movie, not kiddie porn.

If you actually asked for a refund from the theatre itself, then you're an ass. It's not their fault if a movie is bad. They're job is to SCREEN movies, period.

The way I see it, movie creators will make movies of varying quality, and you the consumer should take some responsibility in choosing wisely. It takes less than one minute to check online if a movie is going to be a turkey. If you're walking into a movie that's so bad you can't sit through it, then you clearly walked in blind. As far as I'm concerned that's your own damned fault.

Understand, theatres make very little from screening revenue itself. It's a tough business. The last thing they need is an entitled dick like yourself demanding a refund. Next time you walk in blind, take responsibility for your own mistake. Don't punish the theatre that's already being screwed over by Hollywood.

Amen. What a douche.

I'm not going to read all the replies on this old thread, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds it obnoxious when people say they feel entitled to a refund from a theater after disliking a movie that THEY CHOSE to go see. You were not forced! If the film doesn't strike your fancy, sorry, but I guess you chose wrong. Oh well--walk out early and go do something else that will make you happier or suck it up and perhaps with a little patience the movie may surprise you in the end. Film is a subjective art, and viewers should address criticism to the filmmakers if they hate it, not a theater that simply provides the opportunity to view it (or not).

If you're easily offended or have extremely narrow tastes, then my advice is never go to theaters. Wait until you can rent films as cheaply as possible at home. You'll have only wasted like a dollar at Redbox instead of more for theater seats. And if you complain about losing a dollar over your decision to rent a movie you ultimately don't like, get a damn library card and read a book.

No one forced you to buy the ticket. Quit being a tantrum throwing baby and be an adult. God some people...

Thankfully I did not see this movie in a theater. I has to be one of the top ten CRAPPIEST movies that I have ever seen. I don't know how anyone can even call this a horror movie. If forced to give it a genre I would have to call it annoying, Sarah's constant screaming, and boring.

I've never actually watched a movie and later thought about how very much it was truly a waste of my time. I kept waiting for it to give me something, but there is absolutely nothing to the story, and the acting was truly abysmal.

I think its dumb to ask for a refund. Know what you're going to see beforehand, they don't have a "you'll love it or your money back, guarantee!!"
