Seriously, why so much hate?

There's a hell of a lot of negativity towards this film, I'm just curious why? The people who hate it generally take the reason as it's 'hideous' 'piece of crap' 'boring' 'worst movie ever' and I'm genuinely puzzled as to why?
I loved the movie, deffinately one of the best I've seen this year so far.
Iwth any movie like this, a re-telling, you have to take it with a pinch of salt but I don't find there anything hideously bad about it.
Ok Kristen Stewart isn't Meryl Streep but she isn't awful! I'm by no means her biggest fan by a long shot but she's fine as Snow White. Charlize is fabulous! Looks amazing and there's so much (maybe too much) complaining about her screaming. I don't see what's so wrong about this, the Queen has an icy, heartless exterior and keeps her cool around people. Only when she's alone with her brother does she allow herself to be a screaming nut case, I think that's very right for her character. She's worried for her fate, insecure and a class A psycho! Do you think Madonna doesn't scream the house down when she's alone or when someone else gets to number 1?
I love the atmosphere of this film. A constant feeling that no one's safe and that danger is around every corner, even sanctuary can't protect you. Also the theme that everything considered beautiful is destoryed or turned ugly.

I know this post is probably opening a can of worms and will recieve considerable backlash but these boards just seem to be a hotbed for hate these days. Can't people just enjoy movies anymore. The freedome to voice an opinion has made everyone think they're a critic, and believe me I'm no better but please everyone! Lighten up!

This movie was fab, I love it! And almost everyone I know loved it too? So really, why so much hate? Constructive and civilised answers are prefered please guys, nastiness is unnecessary! Thoughts and opinions???

The problem was the trailer sort of lied, and it came out at the same time as the more popcorn-oriented comedy take on the story, which confused people. This movie takes the drama of the grim fairytale and not the "children version" people remember from the Disney animated movie. As such it is sort of like Burton's Alice in Wonderland movie which turned Alice into a warrior fighting the Jabberwocky.

I enjoyed the more serious take on both stories.

I agree with the OP. I thought this movie had a lot of creativity, CT was outstanding, I liked the new way of looking at an old, over-Disneyed tale, and I didn't mind KS nearly as much as a lot of those who thought she ruined the film.

(As far as the reviewer who said it wasn't LOTR...true, it wasn't. And in some ways I liked this more. It didn't hinge so much on fight scenes and delved more into the personalities of the characters.)

Because the IMDB boards are a cesspool of negativity.

IMDB's "ignore user" button = priceless :)

Don't know about all the hate, but I've just watched it and here's my two cents.

Kristen Stewart is a terrible actress. She had the right looks for a Snow White, but none of her charisma, none of the heart needed to make me believe she has something special, that she is the embodiment of nature's vital energy, or that anyone would be willing to follow her into fire. She has zero grace, and zero ability to convey emotion or thought with any part of her face.

The evil queen was a joy to watch at first; the costume designers made a hell of a job and Charlize Theron obviously loved playing an evil character. But I was never convinced; every time she raised her voice, I didn't see an evil queen about to lose it and kill everyone, I saw an actress trying something that didn't work.

I also found SW's childhood friend/lover entirely useless to the plot; still wondering what he was doing here.

Overall it was aesthetically pleasing, but narratively disappointing. I can understand how some people who saw this in the theater when it was first released, with high expectations, would be tempted to spit bile and hateful hyperbole on forums.

Weell the movie ripped off some stuff of Myazaki's work like Princess Mononoke

The movie was good, it is the miscasting of Stewart that ruins it. I am not being overly negative here, she just doesn't cut it as Snow. She never smiles and hasn't one iota of charisma. Any number of actresses would have made this movie damn near perfect. Apart from Stewart's lacklustre performance I liked it.

She never smiles

Hogwash.

For 95% of the movie her character is in bleak, threatening and grim situations. What do you want her to do? Grin like a Cheshire cat?

She does smile – several times – for example when dancing with Gus, to the child on the dock in the river settlement scene, and when snatching the apple from the person she (wrongly) assumes to be William. It’s true these are all not full-on beaming smiles, but they are entirely commensurate with the mood of the scene each time, displaying the mixed emotions the character in those situations would probably be feeling.

And there is the very telling smile right at the end when The Huntsman makes his belated entrance to Snow White’s coronation. There’s a whole book in her fleeting and subtle expressions in that scene if you have the ability to read them.

Do you?

lacklustre performance

Apparently not.

Just caught up with this and John Carter which were on over Xmas and this blew John Carter out the water. That was bland and had an awful central performance from Taylor but he had nothing to work with.
Snow White was so much better! Great visuals, decent performances - i thought the dwarves delivered the right amount of comedy. Enjoyed it quite a lot and I'm not a fan of KS in Twilight.
Don't know how this gets 6.2 and John Carter 6.6 on IMdb.
Cheers,

I completely agree with your take on the film. I accepted it for what it was, and enjoyed it. + it had some really cool scenes and carried as a movie. Well done I say
