Disappointing Conclusion. Not enough action.

Nowhere near as good as the first one and only slightly better than the second. I was really surprised by how slow and dragged out this one was at points. The action scenes we do get are great, but there isn't enough of them. Not even joking when I say there are 3 the whole movie and one of them is in the first 5 minutes. Way too much time was focused on the generic boring gangster villains that weren't interesting at all. As a conclusion it was a letdown.

Thanks for the heads up.

Not for me. I liked it. Up against the Camorra. Living in Amalfi. Italy. Italy. Italy. Life in Italy. This is a very violent movie. So there is action and lots of death. I loved the ending. It was answered. “Did I save a good man or a bad man?”

The action was good, there just wasn't enough. Only 3 action scenes the entire movie. One is in the first 5 minutes and the other during the last 15 minutes.

But the story has an arc. The first movie was the best. But at this point, his life story has to have a resolution. He’s pushing 70. Walking up those mountainside steps after his injury is a real feat. There’s only so much vengeance he can exact. There are a lot of gory deaths that are vivid. Kurtz’s “0h, the horror. The horror,” comes to mind. Axe in the face. Corkscrew in the eye. Missing limbs and fingers. Daggers stuck in the throat. I’m trying to recall if there was a head. There must be 30 bodies. In this quaint Italian mountain village next to the sea, there are families and children. At some point, it almost feels as if McCall is a mass killer instead of an action hero. So the story is important as to why there is so much killing. And the beauty of everything in the end and what is likely the rest of his life are perfect. Some plot lines come full circle. Denzel is the consummate actor with on-screen presence every time.

Thank you. Will be watching soon.

So a classic three movie curse movie?

I think you're spot on with everything. If they omitted the CIA storyline I think this would've been perfect. Overall it just felt like it was unnecessary and a shoehorned callback to the original.

This out-classes most part three sequels, and is for a sophisticated palate. Think “The American”, which coincidentally was also shot in Italy. I liked it quite a bit. And reuniting Denzel with Dakota was a nice bonus.

Agreed. Also worth noting, the visuals were absolutely stunning. Made me want to book a trip after leaving the theater lol.

reply

Agreed; it was slow, dragged out and boring, at least compared to the first one.
