Monsters University vs Despicable Me 2
Which one do you think was better? And why?
shareDespicable Me 2, miles better
shareI don't think MU or DM2 were spectacular but they were both good, but I think DM2 had more laughs.
shareDM2. We saw MU first. It was sweet, and the back story was nice. But there weren't many laugh out loud scenes. Part of what I loved most about Monsters Inc was the adorable Boo, and MU didn't focus on/have any cute kiddos. DM2, of course, has adorable Agnes (to me, she's a cross between Boo and Wreck-It Ralph's Vanellope), her cute sisters - and the happy wacky Minions. There were more laugh out loud moments. My girls and I all thought DM2 was much funnier.
shareAs much as it hurts to write this I think DM2 was better.
I watched Mu a month ago and I related to it, a lot, to the point of my parents asking if I had some sort of issue in my eyes because they looked infected due to heavy crying when I got home.
Most of us have had some issues at university and it was nice to see a children´s movie where this was brought up.
Life isnt simple and things dont always go they want you want them to so you may have to settle for the mail room of your dream job at first.
But while there wasnt that much to DM2, there wasnt really that much to MU either, I think that they did a extremely good job with his relationship with the new character.
They only had one scene of gru facing societal pressure for being single and a lot of movies overdo this sort of thing so it was nice to see a change
MU had pretty much the same main characters as the first one and I wouldnt have minded seeing mike and sully with another close buddy that then departed from them for whatever reasons instead of using a fraternity of outcasts for their own means and then growing closer to them, maybe even randall would have worked if they made him join ror at the end of the movie and they have to deal with his departure and the final task of the monster games at the same time.
For me personally DM2 because I generally found it a lot funnier and had a lot more heart.
However saying that, I saw both within about a week of each other and so would maybe need to watch both again to really compare. But at the moment DM2 wins for me.
Though I did like that MU didn't need to have a love story and was somewhat unpredictable in ways to me and showed funny sides to Uni life I sometimes got a bit confused about where the story was going.

is this even a question? desp 2 all the way. It is way too cutely made for sure and more successful. Not yet released in china and its budgets must be quite less than monster which is not disclosed though!

Although I wasn't dying to know how the characters in M.U. met, it still felt relevant. And it had a nice message.
D.M.2 feels a lot more like a cash-in, with a plot that meanders a lot.
