Monsters University vs Despicable Me 2

Which one do you think was better? And why?

DM2 for sure. Ditto for my daughter. MU was the the first one seen by both of us and maybe the franchise has just run out of gas. (Of course, there are exceptions, i.e., the Die Hard franchise--1&2 were amazing...the rest...eh.) But DM2 was good as it brought something new to the table. Don't know where it will go from here. Maybe a baby for Gru and his new spouse? But after writing that sentence I can see that would be a bad direction to go in. Maybe showing all the girls in their teen/pre-teen years perhaps?

I loved DM2 but I have abolutely no desire to see MU after the last couple of Pixar movies, I might watch it if it's on tv

I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.

I saw both and Despicable Me 2 has the edge over Monsters University. MU is has Pixar written all over it. DM2 is very funny and brought smiles to my face. I think they improved over the first. They gave the minions more screen time. I am going to see again and will definitely get the video.

Mu is way better it has a classic pixar vibe and made the whole theater stabd and clap at the end . Dm2 is cool though. I just enjoyed mu a lot better :) see it

Saw MU first and loved it. Saw DM2 a couple weeks after and loved it even more.

I have never so hard and so often than when I watched DM2. In fact there was one scene that had me screaming with laughter.

DM2 was possibly one of the cutest movies I have ever seen and probably the most hilarious animated movies ever.

I liked them both but I am going to say MU. I am not sure why. Maybe it is because I felt like it was an improvement of the first while DM2 was on par with DM.

Wanted to see MU, but couldn't work it out. Loved DM2, and would have been a lot more disappointed if I had had to miss that one.

MU. I loved DM2 but I really didn't care for Lucy and the "girls need a mother" story arc. I loved the interactions with Gru, the three girls, the minions and I liked Eduardo. I would have liked Lucy if her sole reason for existing hadn't been to be a love interest for Gru and a mother to Margo, Edith and Agnes. I was actually hoping for a movie where we saw the antics of a single dad raising three girls while being hoodwinked into helping stop another super-villain.

Monsters, Inc. is one of my top animated movies ever made. There is just something fun about it. It didn't feel like Pixar was trying too hard (see Up, WALL-E, and Ratatouille) and it was just plain fun. MU was like going home again. The first act is great and the last act is phenomenal. The middle part with the Revenge of the Nerds/Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire parts was funny but didn't match the beginning and ending. And I loved the twist at the end: Mike and Sulley are expelled from MU and have to work their way up to the top jobs. Also, in a complete twist on the Disney formula, the main character's (Mike's) dream doesn't come true. He wanted to become a great scarer but learns that he isn't made for such a career. That's tough on anyone. However, with a great friend, her perseveres and later helps save Boo and rebuild the way the Monster world thinks about energy.

Still, both movies are great. I give them the first and second spots on the summer movie list (granted I haven't seen Elysium yet). They were both better films than Star Trek, man of Steel, Pacific Rim, etc. Better stories, better characters, better action.
