Couldn't get past 10 minutes - worth a second try?

No laughs and just made us cringe at how bad everything about it was, decided it wasn't worth persevering but seeing as it has a reasonable score and I missing something - is it worth giving it another shot?

Got fed up around the "ahhh America, birthplace of AIDs" "joke".

It's just a silly movie, not much more to it. Just don't take it too seriously. I found that I liked a lot of the parts of the movie individually and choked with laughter at times. As a movie on the whole, though, it might be a let down. I think much of it could have been more effective in a skit format.

reply

No, doesn't get any better. A truely terrible film.

Loved some of SBC's early work (the Tony Benn interview is TV gold) and enjoyed his Borat character once he'd exhausted Ali G.

However, this has very little going for it. Very few laughs and brought nothing new to the screen. I have no problem with a character who offends pretty much everyone if its funny, but this isnt.

Have to agree I am 10 minutes in and it is beyond inane. 6th form humour done poorly.

reply

Agreed.

HGS is spot on - it's awful. Annoyingly bad and totally lacking in mirth (I never cracked a smile, but the only time I came within a mile of it was a scene on a zipwire where he has to empty his pockets in order to lighten himself, and pulss out all kinds of junk).

This guy was so funny once, now he appears in bland nonsense like Hugo, Madagascar and Lez Mizz ferchrissakes - when he tries to go back to being edgy he's forgotten how to do it humorously.

It reminded me of parts of Jack Black's Year One - that bad - but you know what you're getting with Black, and he would never claim to be edgy.

It's an awful film and you recognised that from the get go, it seems.

It doesn't improve in any way. The general masses are just too easily amused by low brow, witless humour such as simply mentioning the word AIDS.

Best comedy I have ever seen, sure it was silly at times put it had so many spot-on moments like the speech on democracy in the end and the helicopter ride and when he kills the israeli hostages in Münich in the WII game! Awsome stuff!

reply

The terrorist WII game sent me over the edge. Couldn't help myself thinking how bad this humor was - that was so off the wall it was good. LMAO! Wonder how the rest of the world thinks of this British yahoo. He's unreal.

I persevered for about 15 minutes, but then gave up. I found it very disappointing; a bunch of stupid sight-gags. When the peasant/Alladeen-double was milking the girl's tits, I turned it off.

don't bother, unfortunately i went with friends to see it in the theatres when i really didn't want to anyway (there were no good movies i hadn't already seen in cinemas around then, i wanted to see snow white and the huntsman but even that was bad when i eventually watched it) so i had to sit through the entire thing, don't waste your time.
