I don't get the hate

I absolutely don't get the hate... I don't like this movie, I LOVE it !

It's one of my favourite space opera ever, and I've watched pretty much everything in the genre... I think this is a masterpiece in the leagues of Star Wars and the Fifth Element.

I mean the story is awesome, it's full of action, it's very fast paced, the SFX are beautiful, the OST is perfect...

I'm very sad to read all this hate, same as John Carter again, a wonderful movie hated with no reason :(

I too liked Jupiter Ascending and John Carter. Unfortunately they were both huge movie flops so that means movies like these are few and far between.

reply

I liked John Carter too. I never understood why people thought it was so horrible other than the movie losing so much money for the studio, I mean.

It's definitely opera! In the style Terry Pratchett examined in "Masquerade"

I enjoyed it. Well worth buying a ticket.

I agree, great movie. Some people need to throw their beloved clichés away and get used to having some new ones fed to them once in a while ;)

reply

Exactly what new cliches did they give us, the girl was kidnapped and rescued not once, but three times. The hero instantly becomes the love interest. The protagonist from humble roots is suddenly a chosen one. The list goes on and on, not an original thought in this movie.

And to throw insult to injury after she escapes the first brother's plot to marry her, they recycle the same *beep* plot with mr. whispers! She is kidnapped, he wants to take her authority by some legal rite, she gets rescued, it is the same exact thing!

Exactly what new cliches did they give us,

Sean Bean did not die.

No f@cking sh`t lady does it sound like I'm ordering a pizza!

reply

Nope, don't get it either. Okay, so it's not the greatest movie ever made, but at the end of the day it's all about entertainment. I was thoroughly entertained. The story is pretty original and exciting. It was nicely cast, Tatum and Kunis especially had pretty believable chemistry. The universe seems expansive and allows for plenty of other stories to be set in it. Visual FX and CGI were awesome, as we've come to expect from big movies and they fit the grandiose setting perfectly.

I loved the movie and I think many haters are displaying quite a bit of snobbish bias. Star Wars may be a classic, and remembered fondly, but it was hardly Shakespeare and some of the dialog was downright awful. It is a really enjoyable, slightly campy, scifi romp. So is Jupiter Ascending imho.

I am very glad to see yours was the first post I read here. I am shocked at it's low rating. Pretty great movie. Jupiter as a character was a bit too dumb for my taste, and I could nit pick other things, but it was a really fun movie. And Channing Tatum looked absolutely bad-ass.

reply

I like the movie too and am hoping for another one. It wasn't that great, but it wasn't as bad as these morons are crying about.

reply

I don't think the movie was great. Its was just O.k. That being said. I didn't think it was half as bad as people say. And i don't think its even remotely as bad as Battlefield Earth. It looks amazing in 3D.

reply

I agree. The Battlefield Earth is in a category of itself. Jupiter is quite watchable.

reply

I enjoyed it, I put off seeing it because of the bad reviews, so that was a mistake on my part
