Make up

Am I the only person who believes that Armie Hammer/ Clyde Tolson's makeup in the scenes depicting his later years was, to put put it mildly, unconvincing? Leonardo DeCaprio/J Edgar and Naomi Watts/ Helen Gandy clearly benefited from the services of proficient make up professionals (who were acknowledged in the credits). What went wrong with Armie/Clyde?

I have to agree, the makeup as the both were older was terrible. Surprised Clint let it go... but then I'm trying to recall any other film he's directed which had old age makeup? Couldn't think of one.

Hammer looked like the guy in the English Patient, after he got burned up in the plane crash

jaitee -- lol I thought I was the only one noticing that old Clyde makeup was really silly looking ,it almost looked like it was done by an amateur makeup artist trainee.
Look at that forehead! hehehe

reply

Agreed, the makeup was horribly distracting! It was actually scarey!

I thought he was gonna do a jackass stunt with Johnny Knoxville.

He looked like the "old man" in Jackass... Could not help laughing...

Seriously, when Clyde first appeared on screen as an old man, I thought we were going to get a flashback to when he was nearly killed in a house fire or plane crash. Very poor make-up job and it really took me out of the film. Everyone else looked good though.

Worst make-up job in Cinema History.

Old Clyde's make-up was just awful. It looked some of that cheap masks you buy for Halloweens at Walgreens.
