Did Blake Lively ruin it

The movie had a great story and beautiful visual style..with some able supporting actors in Travolta, Del Toro and Hayek. The two male leads were okay..

But how terrible was Blake Lively? She has absolutely no screen presence and no understanding of what acting is..and to make matters worse, they gave her the voice over, her voice has no power or charm to it..she has no idea how to narrate a story..

What a terrible casting blunder.

She was a bad choice for the role but she was OKAY.

c'mon the script is crappy...

reply

yeah it wasn't great, i wasn't implying otherwise... ?

Blake did not ruin the movie for me in fact. her being from Gossip Girl is the main reason i watched the movie. saw it 5 times overall in the theater because of how badass Chon and Elena were

Rob Zombie is one of the greatest movie directors today

I don't see what was so bad about Blake's acting. I liked her in it. I thought it was an interesting movie. Kind of reminded me Leonardo DiCaprio's "The Beach". I think Blake captured the free-spirited, flower girl type really well and she has a strong "California" girl aura about her. I also think her acting was really good in this - I mean, what else or how else was she supposed to act??

If anyone sucked it was the sensitive Mexican boy - now his acting wasn't good, but didn't ruin the movie for me.

NO SHE WAS FINE AND CONVINCING
the two lead actors are transparent though

Her character was a serious pot head/surfer girl type.

I had no problem with her acting in this.

I got punched in the face. What's your excuse?

reply

Exactly. I felt like she managed to assume the naive/stupid role of Ophelia pretty well. On top of that, she had a great 'act-ception' scene when she manipulated Elena into trusting her a bit.

What bothered me more about this movie is the below par acting by Del Toro...

reply

i think she was ok
many complain about her narrating, but it did not bug me

Chon was worse than Ophelia,at least Ben tried

The real problem of the film is scenario and plot

Movie had big potential (mostly because of Salma , Benicio, Travolta),the idea was very good but it gets annoyning and reminds B movie from time to time

fun to watch but actually expected much more

reply

Yeah, she was pretty bad, plus the girl cannot cry...There were some parts where she was supposed to cry, or at least it would have been kind of coherent if she had, but no, dry eyes all the way...

I felt that this movie was kind of like an ode to her, with the wind in her hair, and her tan, and huh, i don't know, like a long advertisement for her...Lame...

I don't get the fuss about her, i really don't.

Yeah, how about that? And the bizarre thing with his scalp? Like they decided to paint his hair on with black shoe polish.
