Did Blake Lively ruin it

The movie had a great story and beautiful visual style..with some able supporting actors in Travolta, Del Toro and Hayek. The two male leads were okay..

But how terrible was Blake Lively? She has absolutely no screen presence and no understanding of what acting is..and to make matters worse, they gave her the voice over, her voice has no power or charm to it..she has no idea how to narrate a story..

What a terrible casting blunder.

i thought she was ok in he part, but she was missing that special thing.

i mean that thing that makes someone so appealing that 2 guys who could pull any chick would both go for just her monogamously.

reply

Let's put it this way. The two lead actors were not great, but she was noticeably worse. I don't understand why anyone keeps casting her in dramas. She mumbles and possesses almost less dramatic range than Kristen Stewart.

There are plenty of gorgeous actresses who can actually 'act' out there.

There was some hype about her during the time she was cast. I think Weinstein may have thought she was going to be the next big thing because people did seem to take notice for a little while. But that has died down over the last year or so. She's publically lost 4 roles to well established and even academy worthy actresses in the last couple years...and that's unfortunate for her. It might just be her PR people but they seem to jump too quickly and say she has a role when it's not secure yet.

She was supposed to do 'Silver linings playbook' she lost to Jennifer Lawrence.
She was apparently 'a shoe-in' to play Glinda in 'Oz the great and powerful' lost out to Michelle Williams.
Apparently she did screen tests to play 'Daisy' in 'The Great Gatsby' ... her people again said she was a shoe-in and then Carey Mulligan was cast.
Then that whole thing with Soderbergh hiring her for 'Side effects' and the people financing the film pulled out until they hired Rooney Mara instead. I believe there was a fifth film she was dropped from but I can't remember what it was.

I don't think that Blake Lively is a bad actress since she was pretty good in the Town film. However I wonder what other projects is she playing next.

i think you got it wrong notacastingcouch

Blake Lively wasn't never the lead to take Tiffany's role in SLP

was the other way around, Olive Stone desperately wanted Jennifer Lawrence to play the lead in this movie, in fact he postponed the movie so he could have her, but her schedule was to busy after she signed to do the Hunger Games, if Jennifer had say no to the Hunger Games trilogy she would be on Savages was a done deal

A much older actress was supposed to play Tiffany, the only reason Jennifer was cast as usual was because she knocked her audition out of the park

reply

Yeah that's definitely true. Jennifer Lawrence was supposed to play 'O' but Blake was definitely attached to Silver linings at one point. I remember some buzz about it awhile ago. Maybe her people just started that rumour but its definitely something she was attached to. She also was a supposed first choice for 'Gravity' but Sandra Bullock has that role. I'm really confused at why her PR people allow this to happen. It makes her sound like the least desirable actress ever

reply

Jennifer Lawrence wouldnt of suited this film. I dont see how she'd of been able to play the Laguna Beach stoner type girl?! Amber Heard would be the obvious one that springs to mind as an alternative

reply

or Rachel Evan Wood. Jennifer Lawrence could have done it, but she would have upstaged the male leads too much, so they would have needed Chris Hemsworth or Channing Tatum.

reply

Agreed. I just saw this for the first time yesterday and remember telling my husband that I wish she'd shut up already.

reply

YES. She was very vanilla.

reply

Her voice didn't sound interesting, I would've preferred more inflectionsin her voice as if she is really telling a story than BL sounding like she was just talking to a friend on the phone while she was depressed. She should've sounded more alive, it is hard to put your finger on it, lack of energy sounding. Someone off the street could've done a better job. Jennifer Lawrence would've at least sounded better even if some of the dialogue was awful. A sweeter voice would've at least made you believe that the character could have pussy power over these two druggy dope selling hard ass dudes but she sounded boring as hell and unbelievable.

reply

You said it best paultpault!

reply

I thought she was terrible as were most of the cast, the film had a real 'True Romance' feel to it except I cared about what happened to Clarence and Alabama, by the end of this dogs breakfast I hadn't even taken in the characters names, so can an actor ruin something that sucks to begin with?

reply

bad. I overlooked Lively and liked the rest of the movie. Hated the voice-over and hated her. Almost anyone would have been better. She came across like a blow-up doll with one of those automated voices. Yeah, she detracted from the movie so much.

reply

i would say yes. her narration sounded like something that belonged in a childrens movie. easily one of the worst actresses in the last twenty years. but then again taylor kitcsh is no laurence oliver either.

reply

Not sure if it was just her though, I didn't find anyone particularly likeable in this movie. Just can't quite put my finger on why exactly...

reply

I think "O" was not a suitable role for Lively at first place. Looks like the original script was changed and extra dialogs seems to be written just for casting her. I would like to watch her playing in more suitable roles such as a lawyer or a cop she would be cool in uniforms too nough said.

reply

I wouldn't say she ruined it but she definitely brought down an otherwise good thriller with great writing and performances with wooden performance and not performing nudity when the role obviously required it.

I wish Amber Heard or Laura Ramsey had been cast instead.

Saw it for the first time not too long ago and was turned off by her. She wasn't suited for such a role. She was too much of a good girl trying to go bad. I really don't like when "it" girls are chosen for roles over actresses who will do the character justice.
