Worst movies in a film series

I can remember as a kid, loving the movie Speed when it first came out. Then, a few years later, was so excited to see Speed 2 in theaters. Then, after walking out after the show, I can still remember that sense of extreme disappointment..how they could get it so wrong with such a great franchise. I hadn't felt that disgusted about a sequel since then.....until now with a Good Day To Die Hard. I won't even go into how bad this film is on so many levels. (It actually makes even Speed 2 look like a decent movie) That got me thinking though. What are some of your opinions on the worst sequels or terrible movies from a good franchise series. Here is my short list:

A Good Day to Die Hard
Speed 2
Godfather Part 3
Superman IV: The Quest for Peace
Batman and Robin
The Next Karate Kid
The Mummy: Curse of the Dragon's Emperor
Jaws: The Revenge

Any others that come to mind?

haahaha I read that as Dear Lord Frakit, fail...

reply

Scream 3 is worse than Scream 4. So um Change that, and Temple of Doom is slightly worse cause it had the precursor to Jar Jar Binks Willie Scott and the annoying kid from Goonies.

reply

I think you mean Scream 3 and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Both of those lost sight of what their franchises were, and the next installment was needed to bring them back to basics.

reply

I'm watching it free online while working on a slow Saturday and I've fallen asleep 4 times. I better turn this mess off before I get fired. Not worth it...even FREE.

reply

I feel your pain.

 me.

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan
Seed of Chucky
Leprechuan:In the Hood
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation
Superman III
Christmas Vacation

Just thought of sequels i truly thought were sh*t, not just the worst of a series.

reply

Christmas Vacation? Seriously? That one is widely considered a classic and the best in that series. I do hope you mean Christmas Vacation 2.

'The Dark Knight Rises' - truly a horrible one, and I love the previous two movies of this franchise.
'Attack of the Clones' - I actually enjoyed it a lot when I saw it for the first time. However it is completely brainless and misses the mark more often than it hits it.
'Speed 2' - OK... Why was this movie even made??? What exactly makes it a sequel of that great movie with Keanu Reeves??? A different lead, a different setting, a different... Different everything.
'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' - ALIENS!!!!! In an Indy movie... ALIENS!!!!! Forced refferences to the previous three... And ALIENS!!!!!
'Pirates of the Caribbean 4' - a funny movie while you watch it but not really on par with the previous three.
'The Bourne Legacy' - the trailer makes it look like 'Mission Impossible' on steroids and yet there is barely any action in it. The script is just horrible. BOURNE IS NOT THERE, FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It ends with a clliffhanger that makes 'The Matrix: Reloaded' look like a complete movie.
'The Matrix: Reloaded' - it ends with "to be continued". Literally. It is not a movie, it is a series of fight scenes cobled together by some of the worst excuses of a story line ever and filled with pseudo-meaningful garbage instead of dialogue.
'The Matrix: Revolutions' - sorry. Just... sorry.
'Terminator 3' - again, an enjoyable movie on its own. However it is just a remake/parody of the second one.
'A Good Day to Die Hard' - this is not a Die Hard movie and, what is worse, it is not even a good action movie on its own. It looks like the creators of the movie studied the DH franchise carefully and then made sure not to put in their movie any of the really important elements.

i dont think Godfather Part 3 should be on that list. Was it bad compared to the first 2. well yea, but its kind of hard to make a movie better than 2 of the greatest movies ever made.

Never mind i re read your post and it said "worst sequels or terrible movies from a good franchise series" so that makes more sense. Istill dont think GF3 was horrible but in comparison i would of rather them not of made the movie and left #2 as the last one.

reply

the worst to me is Freddy's Dead : The Final Nightmare. i dont care how bad other sequels have been and will be, nothing will ever beat the disappointment and insult i felt as a film viewer and hardcore fan of the Nightmare franchise when i first saw that one.

to this day i've only seen it when i bought the movie on whatever format to either complete my collection or because it was included. its so bad i have trouble getting through it.

no matter how bad other movies have been and will be, they will never make me feel the hurt and suffering that one has.

reply

I saw Freddy's Dead in 3-D, with the old red/blue glasses. It was pretty sweet. 1st Freddy movie I saw in theaters, later saw Freddy vs Jason.

Have to say, I like that movie quite a bit. I had only randomly seen parts of the only movies on TV, so that was my first Nightmare movie experience. The first one is the best, of course, but Freddy's Dead wasn't that bad.

 me.

reply

I actually liked Mummy 3 better than 2. 2 was awful. 3 was atleast somewhat enjoyable.

reply

Smoke better crack then.

Everyone has put together a pretty good list. I agree with the majority of them including this one. They can't all be great.

Diamonds Are Forever
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
A Good Day To Die Hard
Lethal Weapon 3
Matrix Revolutions
Godfather 3
Batman and Robin
Superman 4
Hangover 2
Mission Impossible 2
Star Wars Episode II
Indiana Jones 4
Speed 2
Bill & Ted 2
Expendables 1
Ghostbusters 2
Major League 3
Mighty Ducks 3
Toy Story 2
Cars 2
The Amazing Spider-Man
Batman Begins

Now I'm not saying Batman Begins and Toy Story 2 are bad movies. They're both really good. They're both just the weakest from their trilogies.

reply

You're list is dead on but for Toy Story 2 which is to me on par with the first and you putting Batman Begins can only mean you've not yet seen Dark Knight Rises. Cause it is horrible.

Oh and Revenge of the Sith is even worse than clones.

reply

Diamonds are Forever? What about Die Another Day, the film that killed the Bond franchise and necessitated a swift reboot?

Also, The Amazing Spider-Man doesn't count, since it's technically the first in a new series, with its own continuity. Saying it's the worst Amazing Spider-Man movie is like saying Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is the worst Prince of Persia movie.

reply

Dead Man's Chest and Hangover 2? Really?

IMO Hangover 3 was terrible and Pirates 4 was good, but definitely the worst of the series.
