why am i loving movies that so many people hate???

Why am I loving movies that so many people hate? I thought this film was great! And I thought The Master was flat out amazing! What's happening here?
Am I becoming some film snob, hipster, or pseudo-intellectual??
Because I genuinely really liked both of these movies.
I mean I completely understand why people would hate this movie and The Master, I'm just surprised so many people do.
What's happening?
Someone explain it to me.

I know exactly what you mean. I also really love Cronenberg's Cosmopolis. I don't know why. And I can't understand why everyone else hates it.

Only God Forgives its not that "artsy" seriously...
Its half genre film / half arthouse

Its a modern "Spaghetti Western"... or more like a "Brysslkex Eastern"

The Master is a critically acclaimed, multiple oscar nominated film. The only people that I see disliking it are people who know nothing about film. It is the greatest film of the 21st century in my opinion.

I love Only God Forgives as well. It just doesn't appeal to a large audience. It has the violence for the masses, but not enough narrative structure. It has the lack of narrative structure and art house vibe for critics, but is far too over-the-top and unrestrained for them. It just doesn't really have a large key demographic.

Though I have no seen Only God Forgives yet ( it just came on Netflix so i'll be watching it any day.) I did see and love The Master.
because what you are talking about is why I hate and for the most part stopped coming to boards. I'll watch a movie I was just truly captivated by start to finished and loved and would come to see what others have said and it's been completely bashed. Which makes me sad and second guess myself which I don't like.

Prostitute: What the *beep* are you doing?
Johnny: I'm gonna kill a bunch of people.

Good taste does not come immediately.

Particularly in film, it is something which has to be developed over time and viewing many films in many different genres.

Films like Only God Forgives will always polarize people one way or the other. They are very love-it or hate-it material.
