Anyone get the Romeo and Juliet reference

R and Julie

reply

I didnt get that reference until it's mentioned here.

R for Romeo.
Julie for Juliet.
M (R's friend)for Romeo's best friend Mercutio.
Love the references.

I recognised the reference until they both lived. After that all bets were off on the theme!

Kind of hard to miss the Shakespeare. I think this may be my favorite version of Romeo and Juliet. I liked it better than West Side Story.

Yup. Balcony scene.

Really, how could anyone NOT get the Romeo and Juliet reference? I got the reference before I even watched the movie.

I`m sorry for my lack of manners, but I`m not used to escorting men.

It also clicked for me during the balcony scene -- the 'Nurse' off screen asking for Julie, R at the bottom. I didn't make the connection to M being Mercutio, though. I thought he was the Friar Laurence character as well.

The first hint to Romeo and Juliet are definitely the names. His name starts with an "R", though he doesn't remember it completely, and hers is Julie. The other clues just follow during the movie.

I didnt get it while watching the movie, until i saw this thread. But it was a winderful movie experience nonetheless. :)

reply

Come on, the balcony scene must have given you a hint.

The same here: just realized it when I saw it in this thread. The balcony scene made me think that they are from different worlds, forbidden love etc., but I didn't stretch it out to Shakespeare. But yea, now it does seem pretty obvious.
