Read all the replies. no one mentions that (I think) you're supposed to recognize the balcony scene. They want you to be a little scared at the end, and then get the "whew" moment. At least that's how I was reading it. I thought it was smart that they placed hints, that anyone who read them might start expecting things, then they would twist that expectation on you.

Duh. Just like so many other movies over the years have had a similar Romeo and Juliet concept. Remember a movie called West Side Story, and another one called Grease? Or the Troma film Tromeo and Juliet? Same thing...Romeo and Juliet.
