I'll take Zombies over Vampires, any day.
I still don't understand what "romantic" means. My guess is that it refers to stuff that flatters stereotypically female ideas of sexuality. Porn for women. Even romance apologists would admit it has elements of fantasy.
Anyway, the undead usually represent taboos in sexuality. That's why vampires often appear in romances. There's a good discussion of this, here:

Problem is that modern vampire stories pander so much to women. It's not impossible for a man to enjoy such stories. But most of us honestly find them boring. There's nothing there for us.
The awkward zombie is a better representation of (especially young) male sexuality. It's still kind of absurd & silly, yet it's such a refreshing counterpoint to the suave vampire. I think the movie gets that & runs with it. That's why males can appreciate this movie, even while Twilight bores us.
