Is it flopping because of the gay couple and gay adoption angle?
What do you think?
shareOf course. Go woke go broke.
You’d think Hollywood would have learned by now…
That's probably part of it at least. Which is unfortunate and a bummer. Sad reality of movies with gay characters as leads. Because. Not all of course, but certainly enough straight people will automatically assume they can't relate because it's a gay couple. Hello, it's not a how-to on anal. Of course if it were lesbians (played by hot straight women, of course), they'd be all about it. Maybe they should have changed the characters to a lesbian couple played by Kate Hudson and Scarlett Johansson. I'm gay, and most of my life there's only been straight content to relate to, which you deal with because it's relatable enough since it's humanity, but that street goes both ways believe it or not. Also. The movie showed various "gay" aspects of their lives, for sure, but it wasn't really *about* them being gay, it was more just about characters who *happen* to be gay, which is refreshing. Because it's being able to exist without having to justify it, which is nice
sharenone of this matters.
A majority of us straight people do not want to SEE any gay stuff. that's all there is to it. all my friends are not seeing this movie BECAUSE of gay stuff.
same as, if you don't want to watch STRAIGHT stuff, don't. totally simple. no one forces you to.
we're not forced to watch any gay stuff in cinema, and vote with our wallets.
this is Earth, and simply how it is.
agreed. i scratched this movie off my list.
shareThis is worded so much better than what I would have said.
The gall of some people, especially the guy you're responding to, who wrote....
Because. Not all of course, but certainly enough straight people will automatically assume they can't relate because it's a gay couple.
The majority of people don't find gays abhorrent in this country. Only 19% of the country feel that way.
https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2022/11/15/about-six-in-ten-americans-say-legalization-of-same-sex-marriage-is-good-for-society/
That survey doesn't ask "How?" is it a net good for society? Every successful society in the past banned it for obvious reasons.
Also, someone saying that homosexual marriage is good is not the same as them saying they want to see or engage with that content in their media.
Just like some people might say bees are a net good for the environment, but certainly don't want to be around them or want to be stung by them. Those are two different propositional outcomes.
You said that the majority of the country find gays abhorrent and that's just not true.
shareThat way of thinking is absolutely crazy. There is no gay stuff even in the film, ya they are a gay couple but it's not a freaking adult film or anything dude, the whole thing is really just centered around ****spoilers**** them being held captive until they off one of themselves to save the planet. If you don't watch a film or show just because it has gay people in it then that really sucks for you and you are missing out on a lot of amazing stuff. I'm not gay by the way, but I just don't look down upon it like so many people do such as yourself.
shareyou assume I LOOK DOWN on it. that is incorrect. FOR ME, I simply don't care. Nor do I want to see it.
it's not for me, no thanks, no interest. This is typical internet response: if not THIS, then it can ONLY BE that. Incorrect.
I use green beans as my example. I HATE the flavor of green beans. I truly dislike it! Can't stand eating green beans. I never will again. That doesn't mean I LOOK DOWN on green beans or hate them for existing, I just hate the flavor. I don't mind green beans exist at all, and am actually very happy many other people enjoy such a healthy, green food. I wish I enjoyed more healthier foods. Again, this doesn't mean I HATE or LOOK DOWN on green beans, they are just distasteful to me.
same with anything gay. I'm a straight guy, not ashamed to be normal. I don't care gays exist, they can do whatever they like. It's null to my existence, but I dislike the flavor and avoid it. Not gonna pay money to see it in a movie. Not going to ever eat green beans again.
PS I just watched most of this movie - skipped all the gay flashbacks and it didn't hurt the plot at all (gee... color me shocked). the gay couple seemed pointless to the overall plot. just more woke to be woke. a better story and a hetro couple would have helped this film be more successful.
FACT: There is no gay stuff in this movie. Prove me wrong.
shareplease actually WATCH the movie first, before commenting. I have now actually WATCHED this movie. Nothing to "PROVE" when it is plain to see.
shareYes I watched the movie. That why I know there is no gay stuff.
shareso... to YOU, "two dads" is simply friendship?
shareWhere in the movie did they engage in sexual activity?
sharePeople who have such severe reactions to gays have been proven more often than not to be struggling with homosexual feelings themselves. I feel sorry for this guy.
shareI explained it very clearly in my first post:
WE DONT WANT TO SEE GAY STUFF.
That really pretty much sums it all up. Can't be any clearer.
Not a severe reation, just trying to ignore it and live life. Like the rest of the normal majority of people.
Normal people don't care if there is a gay couple.
shareheh. beleive what you want. no one will stop you. :)
this box office says otherwise
Trying to imply that it didn't do well because there was a gay couple in it is dumb, a movie can have success or failure for hundreds of reasons.
sharekeep on a protesting with your agenda. eventually you will change no ones mind and give up.
shareThe facts show that the country has changed their minds already.
shareand it's cute how the timing lines up with how fucked up everything and everybody is right now, don't you think?
shareThe world is getting better and you are getting left behind. Time to evolve.
shareYou are right, it is evolving.
DEI is getting kicked to the curb because it is bullshit.
Forced trans studies in schools is getting kicked to the curb because it is bullshit.
Leftist bullshit is being called out publically and getting shot down more and more.
Cancelling is failing becuse it is bullshit.
You people are fucking insane and the LARGE MAJORITY of not insane people are done putting up with it.
We are correcting all your "better". You see it on the news every day.
Good luck with your activism and protests in your blue hair.
There is 40% LESS violent crime in America now than there was 30 years ago. The world is getting better.
shareTo be fair how well did that movie Bros. do at the box office?
shareWas Bros. aimed at a general audience? And I don't know how well it did. Did the movie 65 do badly at the box office because people don't like dinosaurs?
shareWell, Billy Eicher blamed straight people for why his movie Bros. flopped. The movie did ridiculously bad at the box office.
Maybe Strange World flopped because people don't like space and has nothing to do with the openly gay character.
I don't know much about Bros. but it looks like homosexuality was a major theme of the movie where as it wasn't in this movie.
I was trying to illustrate that a film can fail for a number of reasons and you can't say for certain if it was because of the gay characters or one of the countless other reasons movies don't do well.
do you know what a "relationship" is?
I'm not sure we can discuss this logically if you don't know certain things in life.
Possibly. I saw it. It wasn't like Bros. It was just two gay characters with a daughter. It added to their character arc, but it wasn't a crazy display of propaganda.
Hell, most of the movie, they were tied to chairs and talking with the 4 intruders.
but it wasn't a crazy display of propaganda.
“Promoting two gay dads in a mainstream movie is propaganda, especially since normal people have repeatedly made it known that:
1) They don't support gay marriage (as indicated by the fact the Supreme Court had to illegally force the legalization of gay marriage after every single proposal failed at the polls)”
Well here in Australia it was put to the people via a vote prior to the marriage act being amended and 7,817,247 voted Yes and 4,873,987 voted No. That’s only
38% of people who opposed allowing same sex marriage.
Maybe people aren’t as disgusted by gays as your echo chamber tells you they are.
Just because people might be fine with letting gays do whatever they want with each other in the bedroom doesn’t mean they want to see it portrayed on the big screen
shareBrokeback Mountain (2005) - Box office
$178.1 million
That's called an outlier... mostly out of morbid curiosity.
shareOr maybe because it was widely praised and people like seeing good movies and don’t have the massive chip on their shoulder that you seem to be carrying.
What about Call Me By Your Name, that made $43 million against a $3.5 million budget and was Sony pictures’ 3rd highest grossing film of 2017. That’s a lot of straight people willing to part with their money to watch a movie about a subject that disgusts them, wouldn’t you say?
What about Call Me By Your Name, that made $43 million against a $3.5 million budget and was Sony pictures’ 3rd highest grossing film of 2017.
it will change when Australia is %80 muslim.
sharethanks for letting me know. scratching it off my list now.
shareit did not help
shareI heard the movie is boring and slow. It's doing poorly at the box office. Word of mouth is definitely not good.
shareI world think the gay stuff would make it a hit however when you have white leads the films tend to flop. The audience wants black leads. Magical negros makes a great film.
