that was on purpose. why don't they get smarter people to create threads here?

reply

So... they wanted to make our ears bleed and embarrass that poor kid actress by actually allowing this to be filmed and watched by tons of people on purpose? Wow.

"STAMOS!"
"Spell... 'Banana.'"
"I'm afraid I just blue myself."

reply

Wow! Some people seriously should get the stick out of their ass. The girl was great and funny!

reply

Lol, is it me or did she sound Australian only saying British things?

reply

Yeah, I thought she sounded more Australian at times as well.

reply

You're not too smart, are you?

reply

She was adorable.

reply

She was AWFUL.
And no, she did not sound Australian, and I blame Steve Irwin for that perception. Less than half of us actually have a strong accent. I have never heard any Australian that I have met in my whole life that sounded anything like that.

The accent was awful, the idea was awful, the actress is great and worked as well with what she was given as she possibly could have.

Might I again state, the accent was AWFUL. Otherwise so many people wouldn't strongly detest her character. She is cute though.

I get the impression that some of the posters here have overlooked the fact that it was the character, Maggie, who had aspirations of becoming an actress and was showing off what she thought was a British accent. So it made perfect sense that the accent was so unconvincing. What didn't make much sense is that when she used it in front of Palmer, instead of simply saying that she wanted to be an actress, they invented a lie that forced her to stay with the grating accent for the rest of the film.

Of course, the whole plot of the film would have disappeared if, when Palmer found his wedding ring, Danny simply told her the original truth - that he kept it as a memento of his humiliating experience almost getting married. (That's what his voice-over says in the scene with Minka Kelly, where he discovers the ring's usefulness for picking up women.)

The original Cactus Flower handles this premise more plausibly. But then, it's a much better film in most ways.

Her accent was a pisser.

It was supposed to be bad. That was the joke.

What we have here is failure to communicate!

reply

LOL....she was supposed to have a bad British accent.....I can't believe you actually missed that!

reply

Um....her accent wasn't supposed to be well done. She was a little girl taking acting classes and the bad accent was intentional and very funny, IMO.
