Your Age In 1999?

When the original BWP came out in 1999, how old were you and what do you remember if anything from that time?

I was 12 in 1999 and remember the huge hype and hoopla around the original. I wasn't an internet user at the time but can remember the trailers and previews on TV and people raving about it and remember when the old Sci-FI Channel had their documentary specials. I remember when I finally saw it on cable later that year thinking it was lame. I rewatched it earlier for the first time since then months ago (I'm now 29) and I find it a pretty meh movie overall though I do like the lore and backstory of the Blair Witch.

I was 13 when TBWP released, a lot of people my age at the time fell for the marketing.

I saw it when it released on video, and I remember thinking a few scenes were scary (the tent scene sticks out), but that overall it was boring.

I think a big reason why I thought it was boring was that at the time of the release of TBWP, the slasher genre had had a resurgence, and I was very big on those violent films (Scream, I know what you did last summer etc...).

As an adult I appreciate TBWP so much more. It's still the most believable found footage film, and just the concept of being lost in the woods, helpless, with dwindling rations and sanity is a really scary idea on it's own.

I like the idea of the witch having sinister influence on the group, if thete's even a witch at all.

I turned 15 in 1999. Saw the movie in theaters, remember watching the TV specials. I remember some people thinking it was real (despite the actors doing press) but also believed some of the myth. Like I thought there actually was a Blair Witch myth and that they made a fake documentary about it.

I was 8-9. I remember the hype surrounding it. Although I'm a bit confused because some things in my memory don't add up

1) My dad took me to a Halloween party in 1999 where his friend's son, who was about a year older than me, had just seen the movie with some of his friends. They were super freaked out, running around pretending they were being chased by the witch and had made their own stick figure. But the movie came out in July...I doubt it was still in theaters 3 months later unless it got a brief rerelease for the Halloween season.

2) Nick at Nite used to air these little segments poking fun at the movie because "The Facts of Life" was running on that channel at the time and one of the main character's name is Blair. However I swear that show didn't start playing on N@N until I was in 4th grade which was in 2000-01, a full year after the film came out. But maybe I'm wrong and they started playing it in 3rd grade (1999-00)

I didn't actually see the movie until I was maybe 14 and rented it when I started getting really into horror movies. Another thing I remember is the iconic poster with Heather's face. Before I saw the movie I always thought it was a boy because the beanie was covering her long hair.

I was 32 and as this was the first found footage film (ahem) I'd seen, it stood out and still does, to me. I have watched it a few times, preceded by the mockumentary, and yes, I saw Pt. II and did not care for it. I did like this. In my opinion it was a reboot and a sequel.

I mention Heather as I was hoping she'd return as the witch. Perhaps she has but is not credited.

I was 23 and read all the hype online and such. I went to it twice in the theater, and mostly liked it. The first viewing was pretty tense, as you didn't really know how things would play out.
