Your Age In 1999?

When the original BWP came out in 1999, how old were you and what do you remember if anything from that time?

I was 12 in 1999 and remember the huge hype and hoopla around the original. I wasn't an internet user at the time but can remember the trailers and previews on TV and people raving about it and remember when the old Sci-FI Channel had their documentary specials. I remember when I finally saw it on cable later that year thinking it was lame. I rewatched it earlier for the first time since then months ago (I'm now 29) and I find it a pretty meh movie overall though I do like the lore and backstory of the Blair Witch.

I was 7 at the time it was released. I don't have any memories of it really but I remember Blair Witch 2 was the first movie I saw in the the big theater they built here when it first opened. Before that, we had 2 tiny theaters.

reply

14, saw it in theaters.

I was 14 and I remember Hasting's employees wearing those headless stick figure pins on their company vest promoting the movie. I also thought it was real since I didn't have the Internet back then and they were still promoting that it was real for 1 or 2 years.
I also bought the VHS when it came out on video. Other than that I don't remember much about what they said about Blair Witch back then.

16, didn't take an interest in the film while it was theaters. A few years later I came onto the forums to read what I could find out about the movie, read a lot about the back story. Watch it for the first time a few days after that on SKY, alone at night. I was completely drawn into the movie and it spooked the crap out of me.

I was 31 in 1999. I remember being underwhelmed by the movie when I saw it in the theatre. However, I was an internet user at the time and was COMPLETELY enthralled by viral ad campaign. That's the first viral ad campaign that I can recall.

reply

I was 3, so I remember nothing

reply

Being 3 is not an excuse for poor memory, I was 3 and I remember this and many others.

reply

It's not like the average 3 year old knows or cares to know about the Blair witch project. You may remember but I can assure you at that age most were too busy thinking about teletubbies and cupcakes

reply

I remember Blair Witch, you don't. Deal with it. With the Teletubbie thing lol.. whatever.

reply

I saw the original Ghostbusters (1984) in a Seattle area theater when it was brand new, and I remember it clearly. I was also three at the time.

The earliest movies make an impression; from then on I've always had an affinity for things that go bump in the night.

*If you need to know my age in 1999 I only have one thing to say; Atari Jaguar's advertising campaign.

I was 24, making me about the 2nd oldest person on this board. Depressing!

But I loved The Blair Witch Project then, and I love it now!

I intend to live forever.
So far, so good.
