This movie is a 6/10…

At MOST. Nothing personal against Nolan, but Best Picture? Really?

reply

yeap, nolantards are snobs

reply

It's a 9/10 for me.

reply

Explain why please.

reply

Excellent performances, a great screenplay, and fantastic cinematography. It’s entertaining and interesting.

reply

You keep forgetting the great production values and a plot that keeps the audience guessing until the very end!

reply

You could hear the performances over that score? 😄

reply

The story 6/10, but the acting performances bump it up to 7/10 for me.

It's been a long time since I've associated quality filmmaking with anything to do with the Oscars, so I don't care about that.

reply

Dumping on the Oscars. How original.

I dislike this movie more than last year's winner, "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once".

I re-watched Oppenheimer the other day, and the soundtrack just made everything feel forced dramatic and I was quite bored on this re-watch. I don't mind re-visiting some of Nolan's films, such as Memento, Inception, and even Dunkirk. But Interstellar and especially this one are strong nos.

Nolan is getting into the territory of JJ Abrams "hack fraud-esque" in my mind.

reply

Watching few seconds from trailer of "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once" and not even bother to watch the full movie. Sometimes you know movie suck even before seen it.

reply

I gave it about fifteen minutes before I quit. Convoluted trash.

reply

Interstellar should have won best picture as it was the best film of 2014 and one of the best sci-fi films ever made but it wasn’t even nominated.

Oppenheimer was good but not Nolan’s best film but the Academy couldn’t ignore him for much longer, especially when he makes a historical biopic that the academy will absolutely lap up.

reply

My rating as well.
While it's enjoyable for the most part, I won't going to watching it again.
It's not the kind of film we'll remember in 20 years; there isn't a single memorable scene.

The film's editing is problematic, and the script is overly confusing. Focusing large parts of the film on the investigation against Oppenheimer was a mistake; it made the last part drag on for me. Why not focus on the process of making the bomb? That alone could have filled two hours. Additionally, I've heard from others that it's not the most historically accurate portrayal.

None of the characters, in my opinion, deserve to win an Oscar; most of them shouldn't even have been nominated. I mean, come on, Emily Blunt? What's so special about her performance? And why did Robert Downey Jr. win an Oscar? Just because of his popularity?

reply

Consider the Oscar jury. One big elitist circle jerk. Why would we make them the arbiters of good taste? Nolan fits right in there with his snobbish, foppish delusions of grandeur.

reply

7.5/10.

reply

Considering the subject matter he had to work with, it’s a 5 at best.

The incoherent editing completely detracted from the film.

It did however have some decent cinematography.

The sex scene was outrageously stupid for multiple reasons.

Therefore a 5 for average, is justified. Was it best picture in 2023? Absolutely.

In the context of “best picture”, nothing noteworthy has been produced since 2007’s There Will Be Blood, and No Country for Old Men. Hence why nothing since is disused past a few months of release. And it’s always meaningless topics like box office draw.

reply

I agree with absolutely everything you’ve said, which is quite unusual for this site.

reply

Good call on 2007. I can’t think of a classic movie has been made since TWWB.
