Oh goodie, more female rape

I'm beyond done with books and movies and TV shows including rape as if it's just the normal thing to do to women which is so sad and not entertainment. Men and children also get raped, but it's hardly ever shown or completely skipped over (except OZ and a few other producers who dared to go there with real life)

I guess rape is okay as entertainment and a turn on when it's women--and doing actual reality of it happening to men would be too uncomfortable to watch. Rape of anyone doesn't need to happen in movies or tv or books...it really is sad.

I wanted to watch this for Daniel, but no

I'm curious- what's your attitude towards shows and movies that portray rape used against men, and play it off for laughs?

First, the rape wasn't revealed until the end of the movie. It certainly wasn't a central theme. What do you mean, you wantd to watch this for Daniel, but no? That makes no sense, I can think of countless other films that use rape more than this one.

Second (and this is coming from my perspective as a feminist, a woman, and a human being) I hate rape as much as anyone. I particularly abhor the rape culture that seems to blame the victims and excuse the perpetrators. But at least here we see the rape as an evil, cowardly act of a demon. It is not glamorized, excused, or dismissed. I can't think of a better way for it to be portrayed. This type of depiction might actually help to dissuade future acts.

It is not shown as a turn-on or entertainment here - that couldn't be further from the truth. It is not seen as normal or acceptable, but is merely a minor element of the story, used to show how evil Lee is. The fact that the OP would see otherwise says more about him/her than the story.

Just because your father tried to eat you do we all have to be unhappy .... forever?

Why is everyone getting so annoyed with the OP's post? She/he is sick of female rape happening in a lot of film. Well, it is true. But then yes I agree with everyone, there is much more murder and violence plots out there.

However, I don't think she/he is saying they want to see men and children raped or that they like murder and violence. She/he is getting called a troll yet, really, accusing them of such ridiculousness is trollish. I don't think everyone is that dense to believe that is what he/she meant.

I think the point was if it was about TRUE or real rape then there would be more men and children storylines because in real life they do get raped too; a lot. Especially children. YET movies mostly seem to focus on female rape. Therefore making it seem a little bit too pleasurable for the viewers hence it's popularity. As OPPOSED to child rape which is not pleasurable to watch (of course). duh.

That is why we have Law and Order: SVU. To cover all types of sexual assault. They are probably the most realistic in regards to sharing the wealth. Sadly.

The rape scene was tame compared to many movies these days. The plot was good the acting excellent but the only thing that let the film down was the last 10 minutes. When he sprouted wings and caught fire. Just didn't make sense after what is a good movie.
I often wonder how short the American film industry is of young American actors when they
select a British lead actor to attempt an American accent.
Having said that, the acting of Daniel and the accent was just about passable.

people attacking the op have all overlooked the fact that rape happens to more than 1 in 5 women. that means for a large number of the films potential audience, rape isn't just a plot device, it's a trauma they've suffered as well.

i understand that rape can be used effectively in serious films to make a serious point but this isn't a serious movie. the rape scene and element of rape in the story was totally tacked on for shocks.

The only one who thinks rape is entertainment is you. It's presented in the movie as an abhorrent act.

Maybe not showing the rape of men and children as abhorrent is actually condoning them?

I choose to believe what I was programmed to believe

But murder is okay, apparently.

Stuff like this reminds me of "Movie Poop Shoot.com" from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
