I walked out. I just don’t get it.

I’m not trying to be an asshole at all. I love sci fi and I consider myself a major nerd (in a good way). But I just don’t get these movies. I fell asleep in the theater during the first. My wife and my son too.

But I retained the gist of the information and was excited about part 2 due to the rave reviews. So we bought tickets and expected to enjoy it. But about 2/3 into the movie we looked at each other and said let’s just go. I’ve only walked out of a handful of very bad movies in my life.

I’m sorry yall but this was the most boring thing I’ve ever seen. What am I missing? Is it because I’m not a fan of the books? I’ve never read them.

Herbert's work is tough to translate onto film. David Lynch's version, for all of it's flaws, was at least extremely beautiful visually

reply

not really, dune tv show was good. dune part one was boring with terrible acting.

reply

The TV series stuck closer to the book, but also featured colorless performances and shitty visuals. Really adapting Dune requires many boxes to be checked off, which is almost impossible to achieve

reply

A lot of people don't care that much about visuals. I enjoyed the show and being close to the books made it so much better.

Lynch's version is even more beautiful if you check out the AI assisted 4k cut!

Shit that didn’t happen for 500 Alex

reply

Oh it happened. I don’t care what you think. But we walked out.

reply

If you and your wife and son fell asleep during the first one why would you go to part 2? All three of you must be adhd or something else……

reply

I watched the first one after having a gummy. Loved it.

reply

Doesn’t count. Watching paint dry is entertaining when stoned.

reply

Try David Lynch's version. There is also a miniseries Sci-fi channel made in the early 2000s that covers the story better, though I question some of their choices in casting or they way they portrayed Paul.

reply

If you liked it so much then at least call it by its proper name. “Children of Dune”. Yes I liked it too.

reply

There were two miniseries produced by the Sci-Fi Channel. One was called "Dune," the other was called "Children of Dune," please get your records straight.

reply

Who in their right mind would get excited to see a sequel for a movie they didn't like?

My god.

reply

I wanted to give it a shot. I chalked it up to being really tired when I watched the first one

reply

I’m with you. I walked out on it too after seeing about half of it. I’m 45 year old dude, so I don’t have patience anymore for something I’m not enjoying. It was bad lighting, bad music, bad direction. Too much of subtitles. I didn’t buy Paul and Chani’s romance, not enough development shown there. One minute she despises Paul, then the next thing you see she’s in love with him, give me a break. It doesn’t work.

reply

We are the same age. Interesting haha. I actually thought the visuals and music was cool. It was just so damn slow. Austin butler’s character was cool too and I really wanted to see the inevitable fight at the end which I suspect was with knives. But the path to the climax was just too cumbersome. I think one of my biggest gripes was the casting of Paul. I just didn’t buy him as the protagonist.

the arena scenes that dannis the hack butcherd was way more interesting in the book. and dennis the idiot butcherd tuphir hawat by making him a fat turd and also cut his scenes in this movie

reply

I loved Dune 1. But I knew the story so that might’ve helped.

reply

I'm currently watching part 1 and it's okay in 20 min bursts. But to sit through it in one go? Hell naw

Signed, million man

Attention deficit disorder is a problem indeed. But you can train it and kind of cure it.

reply

nonsense. if its ADD it would be the same with every movie and not only movies. so you are claiming that he has selective ADD? the movie is just boring. deal with it

reply

Probably the Netflix series with constant camera switching and short running time he can follow properly.

reply

makes no difference. my favorite movies are samurai rebelion and harakiri and both have steady camera the entire film

you're trying to protect this garbage at all costs. what makes it hilarious

reply

I had even forgotten what board I was in.
Protecting what? lol

It's just a hilarious concept someone not liking a 1st movie, then "getting excited" and going to watch the sequel and complain that it was boring like the 1st one. Very good.

reply

I get walking out if you don't like it, but I always find it fascinating that people are able to fall asleep in the theater. It's so damn loud, I could never do it unless I was up for 24 hours straight or something like that.

reply

thats not suprising because villanvue said he hates dialoge and he basically made those movie has as little dialoge as possible which makes them boring
