Has anyone else found the opening scene a bit disturbing (spoilers)?

In the opening scene little girls were playing with baby dolls, and playing mother, and as soon as barbie showed up, every little girl bashed their baby dolls to the ground or kicking them away.

Then the movie shows all kinds of barbie dolls, saying "because barbie can be anything, so women can be anything", except being mother of course.

Am I reading too much into this, or is that scene saying infanticide or hatred of motherhood is the key for the liberation of women?

Those little girls could have just dropped the baby dolls or put them away, but no, they had to bash them and kick them. That is kind of disturbing to me.

Aside from the reference, it's supposed to be visually impactful, so finding it disturbing is better than finding it boring. It's an opening scene. It's also the first time girls are shown stepping away from the concept of the motherhood role, and metaphorically, this is what happened - Barbie dolls were an instant hit and replaced baby dolls quite quickly. It's not just about women's liberation because the fact they were accepted globally by girls shows that mindsets were already changing, it's as much about marketing and how trends and perfect timing really go hand in hand. Putting them down gently would take away from the departure from motherhood roles.

this was a reference to 2001 except in 2001 when the monolith (big mother) shows up the monkeys (little girls) bash each other skulls open instead of dolls.

More like plagiarism or parody, but I don't think there is anything funny about it.

Or do you think bashing bones and baby dolls are on the same level?

The hilarious opening scene hooked me. It was the last act, in which men were revealed as evil and women as victims, that was ridiculous and disappointing.

I was disturbed at the destruction of the dolls and amused at the reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey.
