Chris Evans casting

While a terrific actor, casting Chris Evans as Mr Freeze over Michael Wincott was a huge mistake.

The character in real life was creepy beyond words, and Evans comes across as too boyish and easy going. Wincott would have brought a sinister tone to the character that would have fit better with the picture.

i thought evans did a good role as Freeze. I had your feelings as well, but after watching the movie i thought Evans did a good job for the type of character he played, hell my GF didnt realize it was him till i told her

Evans wasn't bad, but Michael Wincott would have been perfect.

I did think his character was the creepiest one in the movie, admittedly probably more because of what he did, but Evans' "boyishness" is probably more creepy than if he'd been played by a classic "sinster" type like Wincott. I think he was quite good.

If serial killers were all really creepy they wouldn't be so hard to track down.

Good point

Chris Evans is an excellent actor, and he did fine in the role. However, for me at least the super virtuous Captain America is the role he was born for. To play a slimy psychopathic contract killer can be viewed at least two ways: 1. A way for him to stretch as an actor. 2. Horrible miscasting. Take your pick.

I dont know if anyone saw the scene with Michael Shannon and Michael Wincott, but I believe if you did you would very quickly agree that he was the better choice. I'm not saying that Chris Evans acting is bad or that he doesn't have range, hes come along way but as a villain MW is menacing and experienced. I have no idea what happened as to why they recast the character to Evans but please watch this scene and be the judge http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDPtT1NYWYM

Thanks for that link!

I liked Chris Evans in the actual film, but Wincott was good in a different way. It makes Mr. Softee/Freeze into two different characters. Both are fascinating to me.

I was inclined to agree with you but then I saw the film. Chris Evans is virtually unrecognisable and definitely looks the part, we'll never know if Wincott would have had the benefit of all the make-up and straggly hair wig, but in that screen test he just looks like he's softened with age, he used to have this very angular, almost skeletal face, but he doesn't look anywhere near as creepy as before.

Chris Evans is a hamm. Borderline cheese. However not as bad as Gosling

I thought he did absolutely fine. He was hardly noticeable wearing that freaky 70s hair and shades anyway.

I thought he was brilliant. He brought a darkly comedic tone to the character which was necessary in such a bleak movie
