Why Didn't You Like It?

For those who say they turned it off, didn't like it or didn't find it funny, why? I feel like if you thought it was that bad, you must have missed the jokes. There were a lot of them. Humor, of course, varies by person, so not everyone's going to find it funny. I'm just curious how something so good could be that bad to some people.

I liked it.

Here are some reasons I didn't like it, or think the movie was good. Yes, I'm an adult. I still have lots of kids interests. I still like DragonBall Z and my favorite movie is a movie you probably haven't heard of called Junior High Spy. I at times check out kids books at the library, and my favorite kids book I've read recently is a book called The Toilet Paper Tigers which is the funniest book I've ever read in my entire life which I'd recommend as I'd think in my opinion things like I mentioned above should be advertised more than this film. Here are reasons:

1. Lack of plot or memorable plot: This movie seems to focus more on the fictional Lego universe in this movie and the different characters different dimensions, but that seems more like a kids fictional imagination rather than a fictional lego universe that makes sense. I played a lego game as a kid called Lego Island which seems to make more sense than this movie.

2. Going On With Lack Of Plot, It's Hardly Memorable. I mean it's kind of hard to explain the plot. It seemed to want to give out the messages of everything is awesome and how you're special. The second message seems like a common movie message, the first message seems like a less common message. But, that Everything Is Awesome Song got really annoying.

3. Seemed Too Kiddish: I got bored while watching this movie as it seemed to focus more on the special effects and creativity which we are used to nowadays and just felt like I was watching a kids movie or kids TV show meant more for prepubescent kids. A lot of people are saying this would entertain kids with ADHD.

4. The Live Action Scenes Entertained Me: I probably prefer live action over cartoons. There were a couple of brief live action scenes where it seems to be a boy who likes Legos and a father who wants his buildings to stay the same. Showing this as kind of an imagination from a kid. It would have been more entertaining to find out the life of that kid.

5. The Characters Seem One Dimensional: I feel like the characters in this movie aren't really likable. There's nothing too entertaining about them. They show lots of different characters, including Mlhouse from The Simpsons, but it just mostly seemed like annoying characters one minute are all happy, the next they're all mad.

So yeah, I think the movie needs to focus more on the plot and less the special effects.

The movie was and is funny. it doesn't take much to see that in the Lego world, that world co-exists within our world. Super weapons like the "Kragle" (krazyglue) was funny and served it's purpose just like the "poleash remover naieel) (nail polish remover.) The movie was funny and intriguing within the context that it was viewed, a kids movie.

You say you still have a lots of kids interest but yet you enjoyed live actioned scenes more in an animation film...
Like it or not but it seems that you have lost your inner kid side, you just don't wanna accept it.

Almost all people who say they didn't like this film are pretentious wanna be crtitics. The film didn't get the oscar nomination which they afterwards changed their mind that this film is inferior than they thought and made up some reasons to back up why it might not a good movie after all. So it'll be just a waste of time to read their opinions. But it's not entirely their fault. Their subconscious does this without them realizing it.

Still, it's so frustrating seeing this people which have no idea what they are talking about uttering some nonsense bullsh!t as why they didn't like the film, it's so obvious they didn't like it just because it couldn't get into the top 5 best animation films in oscar, as their justifications are utter bullsh!t.

I just got back from seeing this at a $1.00 movie screening with my 8 and 10 year old and I'm glad I only had to pay $3.00 total to see this. My 8 and 10 year old didn't even laugh through the movie (and neither did too many of the other hundred or so kids in the theater) and when it was over and I asked their opinion, they simply said "meh".

My reasoning for not liking it? I'm so sick and tired of "chosen one" stories (if you want to call them that at this point) and it's such an as easy cop out for a premise. The movie was well done visually and the voice actors were fine, but I'll echo others in that I seemed overwhelmed staring at the screen and had a hard time taking it all in - The Matrix meets Toy Story with a touch of 1984 sums it up rather well. All of the "gags" in the movie have been done a gazillion times before and are not funny anymore (butt jokes, photocopying butt jokes, fart jokes, etc.) and were ripped off (I'm sorry, maybe the word "homage" is what is used nowadays) from other films or books. The film wasn't anywhere near as funny or clever as I had anticipated it being.

I'm not a movie critic and nor am I pretending to be one, I'm just stating my opinion of it. I was expecting more from this movie based off of the previews I had seen back when it first came out and it didn't meet any of them.

We just have different tastes and opinions in life. Apparently, not all the kids who have seen this movie liked it either.

. dude i think you just missed what made it so clever. it is a kid making the story and jokes up. did you theatre cut out that live action part or are you just stupid. it was so clear and you missed it

I wouldn't say I disliked it but I can't for the life of me get what the hype was all about. I wouldn't call it the best animated feature film of the year. The only thing that deserved praise is the amount of detailing that the animators made in creating this lego world. I absolutely loved the fact that they made the sky, the sea, the pavements, even the smoke chuffing out of a train look as if they were made of legos.

The film had it's moments, but as a whole I found it to be a bit dissapointing. The story was a bit childish, as in it felt like it was written by a 10 year old.

I wasn't emotionally invested in any of the characters. Batman (Will Arnett) & Vitruvius (Morgan freeman) were the only two characters who were tolerable. The story was not immersive enough. It was mediocre at best. Some of the characters including wonder woman, green lantern, super man, han solo, chewbacca, c3po, shaq etc were totally under utilised. They were just basically cameos. I went into the movie thinking that they would have had much more important roles to play in the movie. This led to further dissapointment

So basically the biggest problem I had with this movie was that it didn't meet my expectations. So if anyone reading this hasn't watched the movie yet, please do so with reduced expectations. You might enjoy it more, that way.

Wow, no need to be a condescending douchebag.

I loved it!! Funny as heck, LMAO as well as ALL 5 grand kids, ages 7-12. They got the humor and laughed over and over again. This movie was put together so good and we're all ready for another one!

Only thing I didn't care for was the ending with the father & son stuff put in. The film was fine until that point. I felt the same with Princess Bride with the grandfather and grandson, whom I thought the film could do without and just have everything else in present time.

reply

i have just watched this. i put off watching it as whenever i watched the trailer i did not even cracked a smile so i had a feeling that i would find the humour underwhelming...and i did.

every single joke, every one liner, every sight gag, every sound effect played for laughs has been done better elsewhere, for example in dexter's lab, powerpuff girls, family guy, american dad and the simpsons. the plot and plot devises were all totally predictable. there wasn't anything remotely original about this production.

i would not say i disliked the film, but i do think it is massively overrated.

Pros:

1) The animation is beautiful, but if it was stop motion I'd be even more impressed.

2) It does have some funny moments, I give it that.

3) I like how self aware it is, both attempting social commentary and at being basically a movie length commercial.

Cons:

1) It tries way too hard to be funny, and trying too hard to make me laugh equals not very funny to me.

2)Waaay too much going on; hyperactive and frenetic.

3) It makes it out to be unique and quirky, instead of doing so on its own merits.

The ADHD-style pace. Holy crap, it was all over the place the entire time.

reply

maybe you're getting old

sorry did not feel that for a second
the style is fresh and new

doesn't mean they're throwing everything at you
i mean look at the slow pacing scene towards the end and the beautiful speech

ok didn't rush that part

reply

You mean the "speech" Emmet gave to the baddie? It was trite and I seem to recall that it was hardly four or five sentences in length (so not really a speech).
