Really? THIS is the big new Cult Comedy?

Okay, I just watched the film on NetFlix Instant Play, and yea, the film completely stank. And yet for some reason, everybody and their dog loves this. It's a good idea on paper, I guess, and there were attempts at humor in this thing. The big issue is this: whoever made this movie doesn't know about how to execute jokes. Every single punch line and joke in this movie is one that you can see coming a mile away! Take the scene with the police officer in the house. At the beginning of the movie, they show how a support beam is faulty and could fall on them with its many nails. You guys cannot honestly be telling me that as soon as the cop starts walking towards the support beam, that he's going to put his hand on the darn thing and get impaled. Or the thing with the wood chipper, and you see Tucker moving back and forth throwing wood into the thing. How could you not see coming that the kid who's about to run at him is going to miss the timing and land right into the thing! Sorry to rain on your parades, but this is not good comedy, at least not in my opinion.

It is a great comedy of errors.

They even had the "3d axe throw towards the camera" bit... and I'm pretty sure this film was never meant to be a 3d feature. They did all that on purpose ...

The Hangover is given so much praise, yet I found it just as predictable with its humour, as this movie.

The difference is I smirked while watching TH, but laughed out loud watching T&DvsE.

It's a shame it never got much exposure, it deserves it. I only found it because I googled for some comedy suggestions, it never got a cinema release in the UK (or a very limited one if it did).

Of course you can see them from a mile away. That's part of the whole joke. You, the audience, are in on the big joke. In fact, the audience is the only one who really knows the extent of the misunderstanding.

I mean, really. The swimming scene is all you really need to know. They fish the girl out of the lake and the kids see that and jump to the standard horror-movie cliche that these hillbillies are trying to kidnap and kill them. Humor ensues.

And, if you haven't figured it out by then, the chainsaw scene where the kid impails himself should have driven the point home that this will be a gore fest of the kids killing themselves off one by one.

Just sit back and enjoy the improbable absurdity.

I personally hate the 'slasher-in-the-woods' schlock horror pics. They are extraordinarily boring. This was anything but.

Some people here say that they hated the movie because the jokes were telegraphed. Are you kidding me? Who said all humour had to be surprise humour? Think of the greats: Laurel & Hardy, Chaplin, Ben Turpin, The Three Stooges. None of them dealt in subtlety. You could see most of the gags coming from a mile away. They were still hilarious.

Dawn of the Dead a masterpiece? You're *beep* me? Funny in parts but a comedic masterpiece? Pfftt! I laughed out loud several times watching this. i don't remember once laughing out loud during DotD.

The two lead characters were well written and well played. They were likeable, particularly Dale. So what if the characters were archetypes - this was slapstick not Ibsen.

Different strokes for different folks. But don't, for one second, suggest, as one contributor did, that professing disdain for this film imbues you with a greater level of intelligence.

Coming from a (very) British perspective the gag that instantly springs to mind to illustrate your point is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63rcdLeXiU8

You have an off sense of humor, anticipation is funnier than surprise, real guttural laughter is the release of tension and suspense, not shock

Shut up, this movie was funny as heck. Not even going to read that *beep* post of yours.

I understand people have personal opinions that they don't like certain things but I have to say this movie was very creative and funny and your opinion does not change that. They really put a neat twist on the hillbilly slasher types. It is all just a big misunderstanding! I thought it was great. And the way they showed all the cliche killers from their perspective was just classic. A couple of stand outs was when they put the girl in the boat trying to help her "We have your friend!" lol and my favorite was when Dale went up to the college kids wielding a huge sickle and laughing like a maniac because he was just nervous. Oh god that was great. I think you would have to have watched a few movies like this to really get it.

I thought the premise of this film was excellent an about face turnaround on the hillbilly wrong turn films but thats really where it ended for me.

Yes a few moments were funny but asides from them the rest of the film just followed the same direction as most mediocre slasher teen films, all be it reversed. And who didn't see most of the deaths happening before hand..the wood chipper, the police officer, the stupid kid burnt to death it just was neither funny or horror and I am a fan of some of the classic horror spoofs but this I just thought was neither or.

Nothing in particular stood out in this film and I do not know why it is getting the up votes/recognition.

Yet another who fails to realise the deaths are not the joke, they are the setup for Tucker and Dale's reactions that is the joke/punchline.
