Long story short, they never should have made this movie.
Yes, especially when you consider it's a Phoebe Waller-Bridge vehicle. They must have squandered her talents.
Sad. I'm sure the movie going public would have loved to see Indy pass the torch to her, but if this movie fails financially it won't happen.
Well the last film got great reviews but it's hated by fans. Maybe the critics wanted to hate this one to be part of the club this time. π
At any rate critics and audiences much of the time do not see eye to eye on films. So this could go either way. People should judge for themselves instead of relying on "professional critics".
It's probably not the best thing since sliced bread but from the trailer it looks entertaining enough. We shall see...

shareI checked some reviewer profiles (the ones from Cannes) and they are the typical Cannes Auteur type of Reviewer. Some of them also have some taste for Trashmovies, but all of the ones I checked watch far more Arthouse as Blockbuster movies. One of the bunch even gave in the same week Peter Pan a fresh rating and Guardians 3 a rotten. Another one could be also directly apply as official movie reviewer of the NWP.

Nothing that's awesome ends. It always goes out miserable. If it was great we'd just be clamoring for more and be recasting Indy. Best to let this franchise die and make some Doc Savage movies.

John Rocha, a film fan & critic on YouTube, gave a spoiler free review. He was skeptical going in, didn't think he needed to see an 80 yo Indy, but ended up really enjoying it having some criticisms. Said it was the 3rd best in the franchise after Raiders & Crusade.

To each their own. I never expected anything to come close to topping or even match the original trilogy films. I'm still going in with reasonable expectations.
