Tired of comic book movies

Is anyone else just getting tired of the over excessive production of every superhero ever? I enjoyed comic book adaptions so much more when the films came out more sporadically. Like The Dark Knight, that was amazing. Or Spider Man, another great example of being completely surprised and astonished by a comic book film. But now every year we get about three to six comic book films and it's just getting to be too much. I know the answer is to stop watching the films but I am a film buff and watch every film or at least try to. I just wanted to see how you all felt.

reply

Completely agree. I miss the days of The Dark Knight Trilogy and the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies

Now there's too many and they all come out so often now. I can't say I've really liked any Superhero movie this year,

After the first Avengers there should have been a 2 year break from Marvel movies. Not a couple of months then Iron Man 3 came out

It should have been The Avengers then The Dark Knight then a 2 year gap from superhero movies.

reply

I agree. I would be happy with one or two comic book movies a year, 5 is just killing it. The magic and spectacle is gone.

reply

As much as I like comic book movies, I do feel like the novelty is starting to decrease a bit. I'm excited that Marvel is going with Dr. Strange and DC with Suicide Squad for a sort of change of flavor. But I do miss a time when superhero movies were an event that you could get excited for. But I doubt that well see the pace slow down anytime soon.

reply

I just checked, 8 comic book movies this lol.

reply

8 comic book movies this year.

reply

I'd still buy tickets to watch them when I can. I'm just no longer as excited for or emotionally invested in them, compared to the older Spiderman/Batman films.

reply

I completely agree. There are so many superhero movies that I can't keep up. And what's up with all the remakes? Did they really need to remake Spiderman? Or Fantastic Four? The answer, of course, is no. And there's so many X-Men movies now that I've lost count. Lol

reply

Every year now I only look forward to potential Oscar nominees now. For this year movies like Birth of a Nation. Comic book films are just dull to me now. After Civil War I came out of the theatre thinking well that was just another comic book film. Remakes and comic book movies, that'd the majority of what studios are giving us. At least we should be thankful for films like hateful eight and the revanant still being made.

reply

How old are you?

Most of the Oscar nominees are actually the WORST in film.

I think the Oscars gets payoffs, because some categories are spot-on, some nominees and winners are spot-on, but some categories, year after year, are notorious for having terrible nominees and winners.

How many people actually have the Artist in their movie collections? LOL. How many people seriously think Jennifer Lawrence is a good actress, or Halle Berry? Come on.

reply

The Artist is a great film. Tell me you didn't like The Departed, Saving Private Ryan, Boyhood, The Revanant, and the list goes on and on. IMDb's list of top 250 films are based upon people's reviews (IMDb score). I would say about 85% of those films were nominated for at least one award. Check it out. You might learn something new today.

reply

Then there's all the other crap that people forget about a year from now, like Crash, lol. Or Monster's Ball...

reply

Crash and Monsters Ball are still good movies. All I am saying is that a majority of Oscar contenders are good films. That isn't the most essential point I'm making though. The key point to take away from all of this is that the Oscar contenders are each unique unlike the consistent bombarding of comic book adaptions that hit the silver screen numerous times in a year. This year eight comic book adaptions. The topic is that comic book feels don't provide the same awe and excitement as they once did.

reply

You've gotta be a sucker to think those Oscar movies are actually good. Most are pretty much bait with sappy plot lines, engineered to get an Oscar. Were they actually good movies that you'd rewatch? Hell no.

reply

I've seen Crash twice. I've seen Monsters Ball twice. I've seen Thor 1, Thor 2, Avengers 2, Fantastic Four (Reboot), Catwoman, and The Green Lantern once each and will never watch them again. I think I have an opinion that is closely related with Imdb's top 250 and the academy. You are entitled to your opinion. I respect your opinion.

reply

You sound like you have self-esteem issues. I don't really give a s-t about having my opinions align with the IMDB Top 250 and the Academy, LOL.

Be proud to be a lemming though.

reply

I like how you keep throwing punches but it seems like you're the only one in the ring by yourself. I had an opinion. You didn't like it. That's that. End of story. Go to bed.

reply

You lost. Simple as that.

reply

Thebricks......... Blows.

reply

No such thing as losing when it comes to opinions. Similarly, I tend to watch low budget indies. This over saturation of CBM doesn't appeal to me, especially when they're full of CGI.

Blame Rik and Ade for my bad language, they influenced me.

reply

The Departed was ok but nothing special.
Saving Private Ryan was good but not amazing.
Boyhood was shiet.
The Revanant was bullshiet.

reply

It's in the 'favourites' section on my shelves. 😄

reply

Lmao I read the post and immediately thought wow what a moron and then I see your name and immediately remembered how stupid you were. You need to work on getting wiser pal because it clearly hasn't changed from the last time I replied to you. Sorry I'm not trying to be a jerk but I can't help but speak the truth.

reply

Excuse me, I'm 27 and I have The Artist, Argo, Birdman, Her, Mad Max: FR in my collection (among other classics like Casablanca, The Godfather, Schindler's List...), and also, I think Jennifer Lawrence is a pretty good actress (I accept she is overexposed) but, you have to think twice about you said. Super Hero movies, comic-book movies or whatever they called, are invading cinemas like a virus, poor plots with bad performances, movies that are just made to sell like freaking Big Macs. I agree SOME of the Oscar nominees are bad but not the most. For your information, The Artist was awarded in Festival de Cannes in 2011 edition, winning the Best Actor Prize and it contended for Palm D' Or.

reply

I agree and disagree with you, I am tired of all these comic book movies, it's ridiculous, most of them get the praise and the box office while other great films can't even get a wide release and the comic book films are nearly the same damn thing every time. However, I will disagree about the whole Oscar thing you're talking about. Sure, a lot of my favorite films of all time have been nominated/won Best Picture but to be honest when garbage like Extremely and Incredibly Close gets nominated but films like Drive and Warrior don't get nominated (they came out that year also), it completely turns me off to them.

I did love The Revenant and I thought The Hateful Eight was good even though I thought it was Tarantino's weakest film. However, as thankful as I am for films like that, I am more thankful for competing R rated action films (Dredd, John Wick) as I think PG-13 (and the rating as a whole) comic book/superhero movies are part of the reason why the action genre is dead.
