Are we supposed to sympathize with and like the Tusken Raiders now?

After they enslaved, tortured and killed Anakin's mother? Now they're lovable misunderstood people?

reply

They woke up and smelled the manure.

reply

noble savages ;)

Are you suggesting that ALL Tusken Raiders are exactly the same?

Sounds a bit prejudiced to me

;-)

reply

This isn’t exactly a new thing. In Knights of the Old Republic game, which came out in 2003, you form a partnership with the Tuskens and run several missions for and with them.

reply

You can form a partnership with them. From what I recall, they still weren’t as benevolent as the ones in this show, it was more ambiguous.

reply

Those are not the same Tusken Raiders. The ones who did that are dead, including the women and the children.

reply

Yeah, but kidnapping and slavery is a staple in their culture. It's been shown many times. They just did it to Boba.

reply

So historically speaking, you condemn every and all Germans even though there were many who hated Hitler and actively sought to assassinate him. The July 20th plot by several key members of Hitler's inner circle attempted to get rid of him at his Wolf's Lair by setting a bomb ro kill him. If that had succeeded they would have formed a provisional government to seek peace with the West and end the war. Not to forget members of The White Rose, a group of writers a actively wrote articles critical of Hitler. So much so they were arrested and promptly shot and hung for their actions. So not every single person can be part of a murderous organization. I see that Boba's clan were different than those who did what they did to Anakin's mother. But then everything in the prequels I take with a huge grain of salt because it bore nothing to Lucas' original intent from the real trilogy. He changed so many things from those so much his staff and friends tried to tell him, but he refused to listen.

reply

Yeah, like. Are people in Britain supposed to sympathise with Scandanavians now, after the Vikings invaded, raped, pillaged and plundered it for decades?

reply

This isn't the first time the franchise has attempted this. Hell, they did in in Mando just a year ago. I remember some choices in the KOTOR video games too. It's work with and try to understand the Tuskens or respond to their hostility with violence.

I'm not sure how I feel about it. I did enjoy Boba earning their respect and becoming one of the tribe. This was not the same group that captured and kill Anakin's mom, but there's been repeated examples they believe in kidnapping and slavery. More backstory is cool, but they are generally shown to be a savage race.

The last two posters above me are trying to use Germans and Scandinavians as a comparison, but modern Germans and Scandinavians aren't repeating the same behavior, whereas Tuskens are shown to still believe in kidnapping and slavery. They all do it. They randomly attack people, take their stuff, and capture or kill them.

reply

No. It's about not judging an entire race or species on the actions of a handful of them. Whether it's historic actions or otherwise. I'm sure some Germans and some Scandanavians would contemplate repeating the same behaviour, if they could get away with it.

Anyway. This hand wringing about not being able to despise the Tuskens as mindless hordes who must be killed if you are not to be killed by them is kind of ironic considering how many weirdo fanboys are crying that they have been denied the opportunity to exalt in the exploits of (supposedly) one of the baddest guys in the galaxy. Not very consistent with how selective they are at giving out "sympathy" to only those who deserve it, are they?

reply

Every Tusken we've seen has attacked innocents - at the very least - and either killed or taken them as slaves; including this show. They literally made Boba a slave. They are a group of pillaging scavengers and slave drivers.

reply

Actually they are just protecting their property from immigrants and planted settlers who have no rights but have claimed all the planet's resources for themselves.

They picked Boba Fett up and carried him to relative safety. He would have otherwise died.

Like I said. Boba Fett was a ruthless mercenary. An inscrutable killer according to some of the fans. Now there's anxiety over whether we should tolerate the sand people not being very nice to him initially, besides saving his life.

You are a clown.

reply

The character himself said so "left for dead on the sands of Tatooine".

reply

They MADE. HIM. A SLAVE.

reply

They also kept him alive, showed him where and how to find water in the dune seas, taught him other skills and trades, and made him a valued member of their tribe. Nice way to try and avoid the fact that you fucked up and forgot that Fett would be dead if it hadn't been for them.

I take it then that you agree that any race or culture that has at any point kept and used slaves must never be sympathised with in any way.

reply

"They also kept him alive, showed him where and how to find water in the dune seas"

To MAKE. HIM. A SLAVE.

Shut the fuck up.

reply

Would you rather be left to die in the middle of the desert? Or shown how and where to find water?
