Child actors have more limitations put on them; easier to just use young adults. In this case the 5' 1" Ortega can pass as a teenager with the right kind of makeup.

So Wednesday is intended to be a perennial 12 year old girl and never intended to age or mature? Save that stuff for something like The Simpsons.

In live action film or TV, it is natural for children to grown up.

In this case it is easy to suspend disbelief. Ortega passes as a teenager better than any of the supernatural elements pass as reality.

I think she's fine in the role. The "casting fail" for me is Luis Guzman as Gomez. Yeah, he's only in a few episodes, but he didn't seem right in the role.

Guzman is closer in appearance to the original cartoon character in my opinion than Raul Julia. But I do think of Raul Julia when Gomez Addams is mentioned.

The actress is twenty. THere is a problem with stories that have adults playing younger people, especially if there are any romantic elements in the story.

As mentioned, there are certainly good reasons to NOT have shows (and the jobs of many people and millions of dollars) depending on the ability of CHILDREN to hold it together and carry a show...

Suspension of disbelief is not just for sci fi/fantasy shows.

It is a weird combination of compartmentalizing and suspention of disbelief. We pretend to accept a 20 year old as a high school student, but at that same time, enjoy the adult actress looking good "in skin tight leather".

If they had actual high school age actresses doing that shit, actresses that looked their actual age, it would be a very different vibe. IMO.
