Love it or Hate it
There's no in between with this one. You either love it, or hate it... I Loved it... On which side are you?

I totally got it to make fun of it and now I can't wait to see it again. Yikes!
shareLoved it.
I thought you knew the drill, it's kill or be killed.
Loved some parts, hated others. This movie is a mess, but a good mess in that the music and cinematograpny are great but nearly everything else is "rock musical 101" as seen on Nikelodean. As much as some here seem to have some kind of sociopathic hatred for the two main stars, I thought they, and ultimately Cruise (whose inclusion in this I originally found hysterical) were the ONLY believable characters in it. Everyone else was a cut-out;,undeveloped, and barely present. Baldwin and Brand, who could have been WAY better done and more interesting, were excruciatingly ridiculous onscreen. This movie can be entertaining if you turn off your critical thinking centers and just take in the visuals - a few stiff drinks might help - but is it "Across The Universe," which is seeks to emulate? Nope. It would be interesting to see the play to get what might have worked here.
shareI honestly had no idea this was a musical. I just thought it was a story about the music scene in the 80s, which I grew up on and loved. Needless to say, I made it up to the scene where the main kids were in the Tower Records store looking at albums when they broke out into song again that I turned this off and will NEVER watch the whole things.
shareLOVED IT!!! Thought the music was great. Singers were great. Cruise was hysterical and for someone we never heard sing before he was pretty effing good. For the little she was in it Catherine Zeta Jones was fantastic. great voice and funny. Loved it... BUT
my complaints would be it should have been rated R... it was very clean cut and i understand why but that would have made it better... and julianne hough is a very good singer and she was fine but she lacks a little personality... that's the big difference between this and hairspray from the same director... nikki blonski was bursting with personality... so casting of the younger ones maybe could have been a tad better but they all had great voices. and should have been more zeta jones and blige

The music is excellent (as always. Can't go wrong with these fantastic songs). Tom Cruise did a great job. Everything else? Not so much. Hope its better as a musical play.
shareAt first I thought I was going to dislike it, but it didn't take me long to start loving it. However, the two leads had me giggling because much of the music is older than they are, but it worked. This writer who grew up in the 80's found it very entertaining. Fine work from Tom and Alec, also.
shareLoved it!!! The songs brought back memories; I was thinking, ok, which guy did I like with each song.
