SO, who else actually loved this?

Anyone at all? Don't tell me this is another one where I'm the only one who likes it.

Loved it. This is a lot of fun. I'm even looking to pre-order the dvd.

I liked it a lot. I was hoping for a few more big monsters, but still the movie was entertaining and visually stunning.

I'm with you, i loved it. Its not a masterpiece of cinema or groundbreaking, but it was a good solid film that mixed up genres without feeling ridiculous.

I am a sucker for stories that focus on honor, perhaps im just so jaded by the world at age 29 that a story that puts the concept of being a good honorable person on display is just that damn moving to me. Im conflicted as well, because i know that the world isnt made of absolutes, black/white, good/evil.

There are way too many greys in life, and i think that people generally didnt like Elysium (which i also loved) for this reason as well, that it was a bit too straightforward with good guys and bad guys and honor/self sacrifice.

But i found it refreshing personally. films can be effective at conveying the complexities of people and their environments and can even be therapeutic with how we handle things in life (spike jonze's Her was like this for me). But a story can be metaphorical and i suppose 'straightforward' and not necessarily represent life and all its variables to also be effective at having an audience connect with it and foster some good morals. Maybe for me it works because it reminds me that life doesnt HAVE to be so complicated, that maybe its good to just get back to the basics every now and then.

Maybe i was just particularly vulnerable or in a certain headspace when i saw it, but i was just moved and had to hold back tears throughout much of 47 ronin. I know it used alot of the old tricks to tug at the heartstrings, but why is that such a bad thing? I dont know if thats something people are discussing, i havent looked at much of the boards or any reviews for that matter.

Sorry for going on such a ramble, i didn't mean to take over the discussion or anything.

TL;DR = youre not alone, i loved it as well. I missed the very beginning *SLIGHT SPOILER* just before the forest creature attack/kill happened, so it gives me an excuse to go see it again.

Thought it was really entertaining. Many films I only watch once, this I will watch numerous times :)

Me.

Nice to see a thread with a lot of responses for other folks who loved it too.

The older I get, the less interested I am in negativity, in people bitching and moaning about everything. I need to stop reading Internet message boards.

It was *beep* awful lol!

I really liked it. Cool movie. Good visuals. Bought it on Blu ray the other day.

It's proof that letting imdb members influence your thoughts on a movie is pathetic. I was blown away by how much I liked it. Yet here in dweebland,, it hit picked apart. What else is new

Frankly autocorrect, I'm getting a little tired of your shirt

I also quite enjoyed it. Well put together and enjoyable. Not epic, but a good film.

what on earth did you like about it? An episode of GOT is much better than this garbage! The CGI alone was truly awful-looked like early 90s!

reply

Me! :)

I don't understand the negativity towards this film; I thought it was great.
Only things I didn't like were:
- The crappy dubbing. (Not *too* bad for the most of it, but there was one bit where it was just awful)
- The huge silver samurai just getting blown up - No big fight near the end - But I wasn't that bothered about that - I was more thinking that others would be annoyed by it.
- The guy with the full-body skeleton tattoo was only in it for literally a few seconds and had one line, yet he's on the cover of the Blu-ray etc. - I wasn't really bothered by this either, it just felt kinda weird, cos the marketing made it look like he'd have a much bigger role.

I thought it was awesome, i think if the budget wasnt so much it would be seen as a success money wise
