For me, this doesn't work as an Evil Dead movie. It feels like a generic horror movie with typical cliches and underdeveloped characters. It lacks originality and isn't fun or entertaining. The film looks dark and ugly. The opening was good though and a couple of the actors were cute. 5/10 is my rating.
5/10 for me too ...it had too many cliche moments, like when the little girl actually unlocks the door for her possessed mommy and the chainsaw/wood-chipper ending. Definitely a crowd pleaser for the fans of extreme gore though.
It's bad, but it's hard to expect better, b/c it's impossible to recreate the feel of the boundless creativity that the original, low-budget indie versions have. The same happened with the Halloween movies. It's about cashing in, of course, but it's like no modern filmmaker understands the DNA of the originals.
Good post and I couldn’t agree more! The modern evil dead and Halloween films are so soulless and devoid of the charm and creativity of the originals. It’s just such a different time and us horror fans have seen it all hundreds of times . I don’t think anyone could take on a new Halloween or Texas Chainsaw Massacre flick and have it come close to matching the vibe or creepiness of the original ..
It’s a very generic zombie movie with loads of cgi gore. The cgi looks mostly good but I found myself yawning halfway through - I find once you’ve seen this type of movie it all just becomes mindless .
It’s not a bad movie by any means but It’s just barely worth a first watch
