I was wondering if this is done for real. I’ve never seen or hear anybody do that before. Can you really pour alcohol into a watermelon like that and then eat it? Amusing scene.

shareYeah, but it takes at least 12 hours for the alcohol to infuse the watermelon, so if you want to do it, you cut a hole in it like they did in the movie, pour vodka or gin inside, and put it in the fridge for 12 hours. If you just made a hole in a watermelon and poured a bottle of liquor in, it would spill all over the place as soon as you cut into it. People I knew at college did it and cut the watermelon into cubes and put toothpicks in them at parties, kind of like Jello shots.
shareI haven't seen the movie but we did that a couple of times with vodka when I was late teens / early 20s. Vodka doesn't have a very strong smell so maybe that's why Hoffa didn't notice if that's what they used in the movie.
