emotional betrayal vs. physical betrayal
which is worse?
both.
It's so interesting reading the replies here. I was having this discussion the other day with some friends. We generalise that men thinking physical cheating isn't as bad as emotional cheating and women think physical cheating is worse, but there is no right or wrong.
If any of us find ourselves in the situation that one of the four main characters went through in this film, a decision would have been made. If we choose that we're gunna sleep with someone else and not be emotionally connected to them, as Michael did, we'd justify/rationalise it to ourselves to make ourselves feel better. Even if we do what Joanna does in choosing Michael though she really is in love with Alex, we'd find a way to justify what we're doing is ok, or at least better than the other option. It's our human condition. The film is so provocative because at one point or other I could identify with each of the characters and could see myself in each of their shoes. The cast and crew have done some an admirable job is tackling such a touchy subject.
