I remember this getting good reviews and a ton of hype back when it came out in 2013, but me and all my friends went to go see it in theaters and none of us liked it. Did anyone else think it was seriously overhyped?

sharei like it quite a bit. no replacement for the original films, but it's a gory, bloody good time and i like re-watching it every year or two.

It's a great mix of gore and jumpscares, contains a nice lush aesthetic with good cinematography, a bombastic OST and sound editing that packs a punch. The ending showdown with it raining blood is one of my favorite scenes in the genres history.
One of the best Horror remakes of all time and arguably superior to The Evil Dead & Evil Dead II.
As far as remakes/reimaginings/alternate dimensions go, this one was very good and actually frightened me. When I read that the girl from the movie would meet Bruce Campbell in Ash Vs Evil Dead show I was pumped and really looking forward to that tie in. But it fell through.
This movie also brought back so much Evil Dead excitement that it brought forth the Ash Vs Evil Dead series which was a proper show and gave us Bruce Campbell back!
So this movie accomplished many things and is still a decent watch.
It's good, not great. I'd go 7/10
