Worst Olympics ever?

So far we had:

-A controversial opening ceremony
-Controversy in some countries about an athlete arriving 4th and celebrating like she has won a medal. Some media criticized her,and woke people criticized those media, saying "competion is toxic11"
-Paris's river being dirty and making athletes sick
-Trans athletes playing in female boxing and defeating women with just one punch

Are these the worst Olympics ever? Too much politics,on both sides, and too much controversies. There is not the spyrit of the sport anymore in these games, media uses these games to push political agendas on both sides.

reply

The real Olympics is track and field. Hasn't even started yet...

reply

Yep, just wait and see the blokes strolling past all the women on the track, with gold silver and bronze and all blokes on the podium.

reply

The men ladies are banned from running events now, so we won't be seeing that...

Anyway, to get back on track, both Kerr and Ingebrigtsen safely through the first 1,500m round.

reply

Yeah the whole thing seems to be a circus. I do however feel really sorry for the female boxers who’s lifelong hard work was flushed down the toilet so some man could feel validated by beating up on a bunch of women.

reply

Man when you put it like that it sounds pretty bad. I was really looking forward to track and field but with the way things are going the next controversy will be some “hate America” track athlete kneeling or turning her back on the flag

reply

You really know nothing. You obviously haven’t seen our athletes train and the amount of sacrifice and time and how proud they are of representing USA. That’s not to say the 1968 Olympics weren’t historic and proud as well.

reply

Maybe I was overly negative in my prediction. But you’re the know-nothing if you’re gonna pretend like there aren’t high profile American athletes demonstrating on the international stage against their own national anthem.

reply

In the Olympics? I did mention 1968.
Get ready to watch track and field. It’s going to be great.

reply

Yes in the Olympics. Gwen Berry and Raven Saunders are the two I recall from Tokyo. But, I will happily come back and compliment your prediction if my pessimism proves inaccurate about the penchant of American athletes to protest from the medal stand during international competition

reply

I never saw Tokyo Olympics. Don’t know what I was doing then. But there’s nothing wrong with protest. That’s what USA is made of. It would be quite different if you were from China or Russia. China is really doing well btw.

reply

I agree Americans are an ornery people when it comes to protest and speaking their minds. I just wish it was on our soil. But I take the good with the bad. I’m sure there are some Chinese or Cuban athletes that wish they could speak their minds. I’ve not watched any of the events this Olympics. I typically start to tune in for track and field because watching the runners is incredibly awe inspiring

reply

Apparently, it’s the clavicle not the feet.

But - Noah Lyles - “I Told You America I Got This!”

reply

LOL. You clearly never watched Olympics before, trump boy.

This is just regular Olympics. It always have scandals.

reply

Must Trump be brought up in every topic? Thats the problem!

reply

You can always see trump-boys from the stuff they post. Went to check that person. It's a "trumpie"

If she says she will do Universal Basic Income,i jump off the Trump train to support her! But only in that case.

reply

"Trump boy"? Well, that actually makes perfect sense. A person who recognizes and acknowledges the fact that the U.S. economy, border, and other things were far better when Trump was president than they have been in the last three and a half years is more intelligent and rational. It follows reasonably that such a person would also be smart enough to be able to see the woke taint on the current Olympic ceremony and games.

Now, insult me. To be insulted by a low-IQ, TDS-afflicted fool is an honor. It means I'm doing something right.

reply

Scandals, sure, but not like these.

reply

You clearly never followed Olympics before. They always have scandals. It's just that before trumpists didn't pay attention to them because there was no reason. And now they are obsessed with everything since its elections. And try to turn it into Left vs Right.

And for the first time ever they found out there are Olympics.

And now at every little scandal they make up they think it's "Worlds shuttering level". LOL

reply

Yes I have, and no there's never been scandals like this before.

reply

What scandals?

reply

What scandals are there even? Apart trans at the opening?

reply

I am loving it. You are the toxic one.

The rain is not helping things. And the lightning.

reply

Paris Olympics are done very well. Unique, artistic and visual. Versailles for horse competition is a great idea. My problem is with the U.S. broadcast: too many ads; not enough coverage of teams/athletes from different countries, lack knowledgeable hosts. ABC did Olympics best before the 80s.

Nothing wrong with an athlete who has passion for their sport. I watched a Chinese ice skater who could only train once a year, therefore he was horrible but competed anyway. His Olympics score was a low 1-3 and came in dead last, but he received a standing ovation because of his passion for ice skating.

reply

I like the coverage. I gave up on TV a long time ago. It’s Peacock; you can choose the event, the Gold Zone, watch replays, bios. There is a schedule and they tell you how many minutes you have to wait. They show previous events to show how the contestant got there. There are alerts. I can watch things over and over.

Who is the Chinese ice skater. I would like to see that.

reply

Someone else recommended Peacock to me, also. But, I'm not watching ads, paying for cable AND paying for streaming, too. It's the principle for me.

I've been trying to find his name for many years. ABC did the Olympics and covered athletes from different countries, not only Americans. The man had to travel across China to go to the ice skating rink which was the reason he only trained once a year. His previous competition scores were lower, so when he receives 3s, the audience was happy for him.

reply

I just figured out how to watch it live on NBC streaming.

reply

I have NBC app too. They say if you have Qs, you can go to nbc.com/oly. I still like Peacock. I paid $5.99. There are very few commercials, and if there are - it’s for TV show SVU. You just get live coverage. You get replays, bios, highlights. It’s incredible. Yesterday, I watched Shooting for the first time. You can do stuff and watch it at night. And you know Peacock is NBC.

reply

I'm watching the same thing on the NBC website which I assume is through my cable company.

Commercial TV coverage is laughable. The announcer was saying who the winner was before the competition ended. Sheesh! I'll stick to the streaming.

reply

Talk about missing everything that OP mentions.

reply

USA media putting total medals won above how many gold won to put them on top is laughable & jingoistic.

reply

Damn jingo’s are unchained.

reply

I'll pay that!

reply

The previous Olympics was pretty bad too.

reply

I don't understand why the OP with all due respect thinks that the 2024 Paris Olympics are the worst ever when we in the past had:
*1904 in St. Louis, which was poorly organized, fielded a very small number of participating countries, and treated as side attraction to the World's Fair.

*1936 in Berlin AKA the "Nazi Olympics"

*1972 in Munich, which was overshadowed by a terrorist attack and hostage crisis involving members of the Israeli team.

*1976 in Montreal, which put the city in debt for yearly 30 years.

*1980 in Moscow, for which the United States and its allies boycotted.

*1996 in Atlanta, which had the Centennial Park Bombing.

*2004 in Athens, may have been the initial cause of the eventual Greek economic crisis.

*2020 in Tokyo, which was delayed a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

reply

Cities nearly bankrupted by hosting the Olympics:
1896 Athens Summer Olympics
1924 Paris Summer Olympics
1976 Montreal Summer Olympics
1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics
1992 Albertville Winter Olympics
1998 Nagano Winter Olympics
2000 Sydney Summer Olympics
2004 Athens Summer Olympics
2006 Turin Winter Olympics
2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics

At least the 1936 games nearly stroked out Hitler when Jesse Owens beat the Aryans by winning four gold medals.

I took the OP's post to mean the most morally bankrupt games.
