The Tesla product placement is masterful
I bet Elon contributed a decent amount to the budget, there were lots of Teslas in it.

I wouldn’t exactly call it “placement.”
Smashment maybe.
Don’t think Elon sent the producers a thank-you card.
The movie will make (some) people fear that self driving Teslas can be taken over and crashed by hackers. Not exactly positive marketing.
shareexactly ; i found it weird , the producers for sure are gonna get sued for that no??
shareMaybe they intended to mock about the sketchy "Autopilot" feature. But actually it promotes fear for self driving cars in general, not only Teslas.
shareLots of Tesla's losing control and crashing themselves into other Tesla's. Not exactly masterful is it?
shareThey managed to drive perfectly to that exact spot - which would have required GPS, which was unavailable. And then smash directly in to each other, despite having fully functioning crash detection sensors / cameras, which would have been available.
Pretty masterful that if you think about it...
I took it that their central system was hacked, putting out false patches to all the cars as "updates."
If I were designing a self-driving car, I'd put in a failsafe, so that if certain parameters were exceeded, the car would safely find a place to pull over, autonomously do so, and shut down. But if that were hacked, the cars could be told to go to a specific spot near them and do exactly what was depicted.
There were plot holes, e.g. ship and aircraft disabling manual controls somehow and crashing. Someone on the ship would at least blow the horn to warn people on the beach. A pilot can disconnect or reprogram an autopilot with the press of at least one button. But unattended cars would not be overridden, and no one aboard to blow the horn
