I hated how they butchered Mannequin's soundtrack.

This one is clearly explained by good timing alone. Fathers who owned a Sega Megadrive in the 1990's now go with their kids to watch a movie about their favorite childhood character.

Yeah, the first Mortal Kombat movie comes to my mind as the first genuinely good one based on a video game. Silent Hill and Prince Of Persia were also "above mid". I personally considered Warcraft to be more than acceptable, despite the wide criticism. Also Wreck It Ralph, Ready Player One and Free Guy were decent, if you consider them as contenders given they're not based on any specific video game.
You still need a good movie for that.
Climate change does not mean humanity must leave the planet, that's probably the biggest flaw of this film. Sure, many people would die, but "re-terraforming" Earth would be far cheaper.
