Laverne Cox Was Brilliantly Cast.

Say what you will about her appropriateness for the role of a male transvestite, there are very few actors whose faces can match the expressiveness of Tim Curry. I'm quite impressed; she obviously loved every minute of her performance.

Her "accent" ruined it for me...not that I liked anything about this version. She sounded so weird!
Frankfurter is a man's role...plain and simple. What were the producers thinking? Plus, they spent $20 million dollars on this piece of garbage? lol

Get away from her, you BITCH!!!

reply

$20 million you say? No way was this $20 million worth of production.

I couldn't agree more. If someone could ever follow Mr. Curry's highly inspired original performance, Ms. Cox had the best chance of doing so. Tim Curry was fantastic! Laverne Cox was no less so, in her interpretation.

Laverne Cox was amazing in the role... and she is sexy as hell

Actually, the best Frank I ever saw (and I've seen a few) was during the London West End run of the play in the Eighties. Tim McInnerny (from TV series Blackadder) was cast as Frank, but he was ill that night so the part was played by Richard O'Brien! He was utterly brilliant!

couldnt disagree more-she had no chrisma wasnt menacing was trying too hard to imitate tim if she done it her own way esp the accent i might have liked it more

"I'll be there for you"

If only the role didn't involve singing then maybe that would've been half true.

I wanted to enjoy the whole production but Cox's performance ruined it for me. I can see on here some loved it and some hated it so it's certainly the marmite element of the show. Nothing against her as I think she's brilliant in Orange and the singing wasn't even the worst part, it was the delivery of the lines. The Frank and Dr Scott performances were by far the worst in my opinion.

I agree. I wanted to like it, but I just couldn't. All the casting was better in the first one. I think Laverne Cox is a great actress but she wasn't right for the part. Any line with a meaningful pause was rushed and cutting to the audience in the theater was not a good idea. I will just watch the old version over and over and already deleted the new one.
