Laverne Cox Was Brilliantly Cast.

Say what you will about her appropriateness for the role of a male transvestite, there are very few actors whose faces can match the expressiveness of Tim Curry. I'm quite impressed; she obviously loved every minute of her performance.

Catch me when you can, Mishter Lusk.

I disagree. I don't think Cox captured the facial expressions at all,and I grew tired of the throaty singing. The dancing was pretty bad too. Overall I felt like Cox was actually trying to (badly) impersonate Tina Turner more than anything else.

I got annoyed with this Frank rather quickly.

Guessing the name of YM correctly before all others was my claim to fame....and in one night faded.

The accent she used was extremely irritating

While I was all for Cox playing the role, that quickly changed after seeing it. She delivered all her lines flat and uninspired. Also, she tried to pull off a weird (maybe British) accent similar to Tim Curry, but failed and made her hard to understand. On the upside, her singing was better as she expressed more range. Lastly, why did she play the character as a transgender(?)/woman, yet sing a song about being a "Sweet Transvestite"? I thought she would at least play the character as a transvestite, not as herself. What woman would go by the name Frank-N-Furter?

reply

She wasn't hyper-masculine scary like Tim Curry. Still, it was an interesting interpretation
