So a Zombie Apocalypse hits, what's the first thing you do?

If an actual Zombie Apocalypse hits, what are you first going to do? Let's say it hits fast so you hear about zombies taking over a major city one day and have 24 hours to get ready.....GO!

I'd run faster than my wife.

Well I probably wouldn't believe it until I saw one then I would go put on a bada** outfit with some snazzy boots and got F s**t up...
Going to a military bass or police station is dumb....everyone know the more populated a place is the more zombies will be there so logically I would go Hunger Games it up and live in the woods or Antartica but then the question comes...how will I get there, certainly I can't walk and lord knows I can't fly a plane. So yup, the woods it is!

OP -

Anyone who doesn't live in the US has a built-in advantage.

Guns guns guns and more guns.
Military bases up the wazoo.
I rest my case.

What I meant, of course, is that anyone who lives in the US has a built-in advantage.

Don't post when you're falling asleep.

Yet another reason I'm glad I'm here.

Since Zombies love to attack America, I'm pretty sure I'm safe in Australia. :P

I'll just sit back and watch Arnie films.

You stand here sucker. You made me do this - Jeremy Renner

NOTE: I am also in Australia, so this is assuming that the Zombie outbreak is global.

First, I'd take my supply of tinned food, blankets, batteries, torches etc and take a car from the car park. Then I'd try to find a compound bow. Then I'd craft the arrows for them. Then, I'd find/swap to a truck, of the kind banks use to transport money and make my way to my parent's pace to see if they are ok.

If my parents are ok, I'd get them in the truck and find the nearest botanic gardens, go into their store room and look for books that will help me identify which plants are edible, which plants can be used for medicinal purposes and hopefully a book that will help me identify different strains of Marijuana seeing as that is a powerful pain killer and in some cases can help with anxiety, depression, and act as a sleep aid. Depending on which strain you took. Also adopt some of the hunting/gathering practices of the indigenous people. As I'd expect pharmacies to be picked clean, I wouldn't turn down Penicillin, Morphine, prozac or Effexor XR if I came across any though. I'd also try to find a motorcycle store in the hopes of scavenging some Kevlar trousers like these http://www.rhok.com.au/jeans.htm

Then I'd make my way to Perth with my parents, and get to the Naval base my sister works on. If my sister and brother in-law are ok, go to the armory with her and see if there are any Steyr Rifles left or take the ones my sister stashed before anyone else could scavenge them. Then I'd try to make contact with my other sister in Cambridge in the UK. After that it would be what my family wants to do.

Evolve or die.

24 hours to prepare or 24 hours to get away?
I would stock my pantry with non-perishable foods, steal a generator and board up my home.
Luckily none of my windows are close to the ground (zombies would need a step-latter at least) so it wouldn't be too difficult. And being rather rural does help too. I would wait for the zombies to migrate to warmer weather and then fortify a better/safer area.
Then again, with my luck, I'd get bit in the first hour by patient 0....
