Why so much hate

I actually liked it; good enough plot, great special effects. Nothing groundbreaking, but it wasn't bad.

Life is overrated

You also gotta look at the context. When The Dark Knight came out, DC movie fans got high as a kite. Great film. Oscar-winning film. Everyone was going nuts.

But then there was this tickle of doubt. Iron Man had just announced the MCU a couple years before; then Marvel did Iron Man 2 and Thor while DC was doing Jonah Hex. Not good. And Nolan didn't want to play in a shared universe. There was a fear that Nolan's Batman had become the previous cool thing, while the MCU was the next cool thing.

But Green Lantern was going to change that. Excited fans made lists of all the ultra-tiny references it was making to a wider DC universe. It was supposed to keep up with the Joneses.

And... that did not happen. Hopes were dashed. Captain America came out a month later, and it was evident that GL was not winning this arms race.

Agreed lithium099. Green Lantern is a good film but the audience was expecting a great film. Not tight story wise too bad, it has heart.

I just watched it for the first time and I quite liked it. I don't get the hate either. It was a fun, action-packed adventure.

Then again, by bff, who is a fan of the original comic, was disappointed. I've never read the comic or seen any previous incarnations, so I was fine with it.

Ryan Reynolds has that dead look behind his eyes.

I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy.

I think all the production and casting are top notch
But the screenplay, story and direction are very disappointing

I enjoyed the movie when I saw it. I didn't think it was perfect but comic book movies usually aren't.

I do agree that there was a bandwagon of hate to go along with it but how does a bandwagon like that thrive? I mean every big movie will have its haters. So what did these haters do/say/get-secretly-funded-by that gave them the oomph needed to cause the majority that saw it to look on it unfavorably?
